One thing that I thought about as soon as I started watching the videos and reading was to record key comprehension skills that students struggle with that even though students have text resources to re-read about the skills, I could create a video of me teaching the skill again with some sort of visual anchor chart or a slide show of me reading it and explaining. I think that this would be useful to to create and share with my students on Google Drive so they could access them whenever they got to a skill they couldn't remember. I also thought about that it would be helpful to create videos of me showing students how to use Google Slides and how to interact with them when we do our social studies curriculum. Our 4th grade curriculum has slides with all the reproducibles and makes it more interactive for students. They are required to highlight, type, change fonts, etc and some of my students can never remember how to do it, so a video they could reference would be very helpful.

In a language classroom there are lots of opportunities to use video and create videos as well. We could watch authentic videos of any subject in Spanish. Since I teach Spanish 1, I would have to be selective and choose videos that have vocab content that my students have been exposed to or even use a video to expose them to particular vocab and structures. In that context, I could have them predict the meaning based on context clues in the video. They would also have the opportunity to watch it multiple times, which for language acquisition is paramount!

As for creating videos, I am excited to have my students create their own videos! Almost every student has a smartphone that is capable of recording video. I would have pair students up and have them record conversations with each other in Spanish. They could even ask a native speaker to converse with them and record it. I think this resource will be a great way to assess their pronunciation of the language as well, since hearing each student in the classroom setting is often unrealistic.

This is probably the technology I like to use the most. Kahn Academy is a great reference for math. I have used some of his tutorials along with Edpuzzle to create intro lessons to a concept. I have all my Algebra 2 classroom lectures as pencasts via a smart pen so that students can access notes when they are gone. I have had students do short movie projects to show how math shows up in their real world. When time allows in the curriculum I love to have kids create their own videos!! And because I teach Digital Media we are constantly working with video. Even when we are doing photoshop, they are accessing youtube tutorials to extend what they know. Maybe it's that art major kicking in but I love working with video!

When I start teaching I think it would be great to divide the class into groups of two or three and assign each group a different subject from the class to make a video on. I have done this before with life action shots but I think that animated videos add a whole new fun and exciting element. With the onset of new technologies like Animojis I think that animated videos in class become easy to make. I think it would be easiest to divide the class up into different groups based on skill level in making videos, computer or mobile operating system, and knowledge of course content.

The first thing that came to mind when going through these resources is how helpful these videos would be for students that are absent frequently. At the High School level, there are always activities that pull students away. Sometimes, I will go a whole week without seeing a student due to activities. Creating videos would engage them in the classroom yet and help me not explain the lesson to 20 different students. Students that are away could also create a video based off the resources I provide them. That ensures they are still understanding the concepts even though they are not in the classroom. Being a first year teacher, that was the most difficult thing this year, catching students up. Hopefully video resources help tackle that problem!

I can not say that using videos in my classroom as been a major part of my teaching. I have over the years created more visual PowerPoints, but never added audio to them. I know that I will expand my teaching a little more after this class in creating new and interesting ways to utilize technology in my classroom. I work in a very low poverty community. I want to make it more appealing to come to school and learn and by incorporating more videos and technology projects maybe I can get them excited about learning. I think we are going to try Google Classroom this year and that will be a good place for me to organize and utilize more videos and visuals than I ever have before.

I'm planning to set my Media Center up differently this next year where I will have small groups working in different centers throughout their Media time. I can see that using video will be beneficial in that I can get different groups started on different things simply by having them click on the video that will instruct them on their task for the day. I'm also wanting to start a blog where my 2nd grade students interview different teachers/employees at the school so that we can all get to know them better. I also think video will be beneficial to use when a substitute is coming in for the day. I utilized several YouTube videos in my lessons last year but I'm looking forward to making my own and having the students make videos as well!!

It is full of video resources, and students (and I) love it!! The short videos and discussion between each clip allows my students to really dig deep with predicting and critical thinking!

Angie Boyce -Video Resources I have used Google Slides during my library classes and attached videos to the bottom of the slides. This has helped organize my lessons. I love showing book trailers to the students. I have used You Tube to find book trailers and book reviews. Last year, I had my fifth grade class participate in learning centers. Having a video of myself giving them the instructions on each center would allow me to float around and observe the students working at each center. In using these videos to help with instruction will allow for more organization during students work time. I think the students may enjoy making videos to encourage others to read certain books. Last year I used FlipGrid for this activity.

Jesse Fitzke: In my content area using videos could be very beneficial. First videos change up the routine a little and it usually captures students attention as well. I would use videos of success stories in business and even speeches of people who have become very successful in the business world. Showing these videos seem to motivate students and also show them and anything is possible. Its almost like having a guest speaker in the classroom. One advantage to creating videos would being able to create a lecture and then using it when a substitute is needed. Having subbed before some teachers just assign simple worksheets to work on and that usually is not productive. By showing a video of me talking about a subject I feel that will not only allow students to keep learning when I'm gone, but also help the sub keep them on track as well.

Liz Hamling: I use video resources quite a bit in my classroom. My students and I use google classroom for at least 50% of our classwork. I like to use videos as a way to create background knowledge and also to explain a concept. I especially like to use videos when students are working at their own pace, so kids can refer back to them. I would like to become more comfortable with doing voice overs in my power points, which would be extremely helpful when students are absent.

In the science classroom, videos are a great tool to help with the depth of the subject. I have used Edpuzzle to create quizzes off of videos. I also encourage students to look up videos on how to do chemistry. There are people out there with a lot more knowledge and may explain something better than I can or just differently. Either way, if it is beneficial for the student, I tell them to keep using it.
Richard McDonald

I have used educational videos in my classroom. I have the students write 3 new facts that they learned as an exit ticket, I have also used the fill in the blanks activities while they are watching the video or ppt's. I have had the student do a hand, pair, share activity telling their partner the most interesting things they learned in the video...
I do use google classroom with my students, but I am changing to ELL/Title this year so I won't have a traditional classroom so things will change a little bit.
My new goal will be to post classroom discussions, activities and lectures into their google classroom and then they can use it for review or to look back at the lesson if they have questions. I also see that having them producing their own videos will help them to show me what they know vs. paper pencil test- which I feel is hard for ELL students because of how they read and understand the questions in a "regular" test.
I also thought of having my students read a story into the computer and having them listen to their own readings and they can grade themselves on a rubric or something like that, I can also listen to it and we can discuss where they think mistakes are made and compare them to where I think they need to improve and work with them on those together. I love the idea of having them role play a story, this will be a great way for them to use fluent voice as they immerse themselves into the story. Looking forward to the new challenge.

I will use video resources several ways within my classroom. I believe it is very beneficial to create my own videos, as well as use existing video resources to engage and motivate students within my classroom. There are several ways to create videos, and even several resources to locate videos such as YouTube, TeacherTube, Vimeo, and more. Providing students with such visuals will get them excited about learning and grab their attention. While there may be certain challenges such as a lack of resources, equipment, software, or technical problems, I am up to the challenge because I understand the many benefits it provides for students. Those benefits include, stimulation of visual learners, increased student attention, the ability to demonstrate how something works, provides information a text or illustration cannot, and enhances problem based learning. Another benefit is allowing students who are absent to still get the same lecture other students received. When we use video resources, whether we made them or found them, we can reach all learning styles. Because I understand how beneficial it is to use videos within the classroom myself, I will also allow my students to keep up with the trends and create videos themselves. Creating videos will allow them to develop several skills such as critical thinking that they will likely use in their future. My school is one to one with Ipads so they will have multiple ways to create videos using apps such as educreations. Overall, I am very excited about using videos, whether that be ones I created, ones my students created, or ones I found within my classroom. There are several benefits that my students will receive through the use of video. While I am aware of the challenges, I am willing to overcome them and face them in order to engage and motivate my students.

I have not thought about using video lectures in my classroom before. I have a hard time really thinking of ways to use technology in class with my preschoolers. However, this class is helping me grow in the areas. One of the biggest ways I will use video resources in the classroom is to help my students learn in a different ways. It will grab their attention in a new way, to engage them more with learning. Oe of the biggest ways I will use video resources in the classroom with my preschoolers is when they are working on building certain skills like handwriting. They will not have to have me sit by them to remind them of how they should be holding pencils, where to start to form letters, etc. We will also be able to work together as a class to create exciting videos on topics we have been learning about. One of the topics I teach about is insects, I could see my students each talking about a different insect to share with their classmates. It does seems harder to connect technology with 3-5 year olds, but as they move throughout grades it's only going to become more prominent. It would be a place to start and although I would still help quite a bit, they would be exposed to new ways of learning.

The video I have used in the past is the standard watching and video and discussing thoughts, feelings, etc. about the content. However, I am very interested in incorporating more instructional video into my classroom. Our school just finished it's first year of using Canvas as the LMS and something that I want to do is use video instruction, especially for days that I know I will be gone. This will allow the students to stay on task with the lesson and avoid us having a "free" day so to speak. By posting a video, it will be just like a normal day of classroom instruction and the substitute will be there just for assistance purposes. I also like the idea of students creating their own videos for projects. I have cameras at my disposal in my classroom so I'm excited about putting them to use this next school year.

I will be teaching a digital media class where I hope to have students create a multitude of digital media sources. Some of them will be interviews of the school population. I want them to also make video commercials of local businesses. Finally, I do have a drone that takes great video and I would like them to edit that into some of these applications.

In the future I may be teaching a class that uses illustrator, photoshop, indesign and etc. I like the idea of using videos to help the students learn. I would video myself making the demonstration video so students could go back and see anything they may have missed. I also would have other youtube videos for them to look at. In another class I would want them to do a video about the school. This would be more of a junior or senior class. If would be a video about their time at the school and what they will remember the most.

I have thought about this a lot each year and have always intended on recording my voice over my slides for kids who may be out that particular day. We always get into good discussions that would be nice to have captured for those who weren't there. Another way that I thought it may be useful is to have the students record their lab procedures and results using video. I thought it would be a good way for them to go back and review what their results were as well as having it available for those who missed the lab.

I did these modules a little out of order, but I feel I can better answer this question now. I enjoy using videos in my class already and plan to do so even more now that I know some other resources to use with them to help kids get the most educationally out of the material. As a science teacher especially, videos help me show students things that I don't have the knowledge/resources to provide in the classroom. They get a better picture of what is going on through videos.
I thought it was interesting in the readings how it mentioned that videos appeal to visual and auditory learners. The point about students getting more engaged in video content is true but seemed obvious to me, where the learning style point was a new concept for me. Of course I am aware of learning styles, but I had never considered how video would help me cater to students who learn differently.
Using screencastomatic was pretty easy, so I may use it in my classroom as well as using the different video resources I already use and the ones that have been suggested in this module and module 4.
