After studying montage, students will storyboarding and creating/presenting pitches of montages--that they create in pairs or small groups--based on single stories or thematic links across stories.

BRIDGE and PrepReads will host a visiting speaker in January for the whole school.

Students engage in an array of activities alone, in groups, and as a class in which they identify memorable stories, identify significant details and themes, and work together to find unifying threads. They will also do an interview-based project inspired by The Last repair Shop. We'll refer back to themes from them throughout our ENTIRE year!

We are discussing five stories in class (chosen by the students in each section) to inspire the students' own one-page Moth stories. We are using the through line of "holding on and letting go" to frame our discussion and inspire personal stories.

12th Grade Literature of Dissent

We shared our favorite stories from the collection, with students having to craft a lively sales pitch about why theirs was the best & should be read. These sales tactics had to highlight key storytelling techniques that were used in their choice. Their final project was inspired by the podcast, "Everything Is Alive". Students had to create a story from one of the following: a) one of the instrument's perspectives from "The Last Repair Shop" describing its relationship with its student, b) one of the objects that factors in THE MOTH stories & its relationship to its person - think the Brat Doll from "It's a Bratz Life", or c) an object from their own life & its relationship to them. They will share them aloud on Friday.

Focusing on students own experiences, each member of the class wrote and shared with me a story they felt belonged in the Moth collection. Emphasis on “small moments” and specifics. The stories that came out of this were incredibly sweet.

7th Grade Life Science

Students interview family members and others in their community, asking them to share anecdotal stories about many topics, including injuries, illnesses, pregnancy, birth and parenting. With permission from their subjects, students will sometimes formally write out the narrative, or they will present the stories as monologues spoken in the first person.

8th Grade CIP

We study moth stories specifically told by young people. In conjunction with Megan, they will write out a personal narrative in English and present the story out loud in CIP.
