Answer the following questions in detail:
How did you feel about Sybil when at the beginning of the movie when she was speaking to her father?
What effects did her mother's mental illness have on Sybil?
Do you feel that by understanding Sybil's past, and how it influenced her later in life will help you when you meet someone who "acts differently", and may have a mental disorder?

What is your reaction to the movie? Do you think that it helped you understand mental illness better?

1) I felt that she wanted to get better but she felt that she needed to get her fathers approval first.
2) Her mothers illness impacted Sybil greatly. The older woman had mentally destroyed her daughter and that later affected Sybil's social life.
3) Yes, this story will better benefit the way people view someone who acts differently, people might understand that it could be a mental disturbance.
4) Personally I enjoyed the movie. It opened up many people's eyes by giving the perspective of a person with a mental disorder.
5) This movie helped me better understand this particular illness. It showed that this disorder can ruin someone's life, it does not just affect the social life of a person.

I thought Sybil was just throwing a fit in the restaurant they were at. He seemed doubtful of Sybil's sickness when she brought it up to him, even though there were obvious symptoms of the dissociative identity disorder. Her mother tortured Sybil inhumanely because she was not fit to raise a child. It seemed as if she also had blackouts and would snap in and out of torture and naturally motherly instincts. Understanding Sybil's past will definitely help me see why "different" people act the way they do. It plays a huge effect in their lives, especially if they're like Sybil's mother and never got the right treatment for the sickness. She then was not able to raise Sybil like a "normal" mother because of the sickness which led to her own daughter being terribly ill as well. This movie helped me understand more of the causes of mental disorders and the person's personal life. I now have a deeper understanding as to why the multiple identities would have been formed and I know that they weren't just born "different."

I liked Sybil. I felt that Sybil was scared to talk to her father with the fear that he wouldn't realize how big her problem was and wouldn't do anything about it. Her mother's mental illness had a huge impact on who Sybil later became. Because of her mother, Sybil developed her own mental illness and had a lo of distress and bad memories. It caused her to have multiple personalities. Understanding Sybil's past would help me meet someone who may have a mental disorder because I will better understand what might have happened to that person. I liked the movie, it helped me understand how a multiple personality disorder works and what distress it causes people to have.

I felt that her father didn't want to believe that she had an illness. I felt bad for her because her father is suppose to be there for her and he was kind of brushing off the issue like it was nothing.

Her mother having that mental illness caused Sybil to have the disorder she had. Her mother abused her in ways most people wouldn't imagine. Her mother made Sybil's life miserable even after her death.

I already try my best not to judge people by the way they look, act, etc. because i don't know them personally. They could look so happy and full of life on the outside, but they could be really hurting or going through something that we don't know about. I just don't feel like it's my place to judge a person.

I really enjoyed this movie it helped me to understand what this disorder can look like and how it can effect peoples lives. Also the movie showed that getting over an illness like that is going to take time and that it's okay to seek help.

I didn't know what was wrong with Sybil at the beginning, so I thought she was a little weird. Her father disapproving of the doctor made it hard for Sybil to get the help she needed and that made it harder for her. Her mother's illness made Sybil the way she was. It gave her the multiple personalities that kept certain aspects of her life safe from her mother. It was definitely easier to understand Sybil after learning about her past. I think that it might help me deal with someone with a mental disorder. It just depends on the disorder. I thought the movie was good. It was a little hard to understand who was speaking at times but it got easier. I think it helped me understand some mental illnesses, because it helped me understand how the person feels and how they react to those feelings.

Katelyn Fuchs I felt bad for Sybil when she was first talking to her father because he didn't understand she needs help. That was her cry out for help and he turned her down. Her mothers illness ruined her childhood and made her have serious medical problems because of it. I don't think you could meet someone and instantly know they have multiple personalities, it would take time to notice. I enjoyed the movie because it gave me a better understanding on how a bad childhood can affect your mental state.

1. I felt as if Sybil was trying to be honest with her father and he knew why she had problems but he blew it off, causing her to get mad because she was trying her hardest to get help.
2. The effects caused from the mother were many such as not trusting people, being scared to be loved and having severe flashbacks and breakdowns to how the mother treated her. It made her not feel like a human.
3. I definitely have always believed that people who act differently have a reason for it; and being able to be let in and know more of the past, helps but to me, you must be kind and understanding to everyone you meet because everyone has a battle they are hiding: you must help them.
4. My reaction of the movie was that it was fantastic and an eye opener for people with mental illness. People who have issues don't just have them; there are things that led them to this point and to learn about someone's life and see what they went through is very interesting and informative.
5. I truly believe it helped me understand mental illness because you can see how one little sound or item can be a trigger and cause issues/breakdowns to occur. It also helped me understand what goes on in their heads rather than just assume. The human body and brain is interesting and learning about it from a true story makes it even more prominent to see how different and unique we all are.

At the beginning of the movie I thought Sybil was just a crazy lady. The effects that her mother's illness had on her were terrible. Sybil had to experience a terrible childhood that effected her in adulthood. I think by watching this movie and seeing how Sybil grew up to be like after what she has been though, will help me when I meet someone with a mental illness. Just because now I know that what people went through as a child and how it effects them later is not their fault, they can't control how they act. My reaction to the movie at first was kind of all over the place because I was confused at the beginning and didn't understand why we were watching it. Later on in the movie i began to realize why Sybil has multiple personalities and why she was as crazy as she was. I think it helped me understand metal illness better because I watched a whole movie on it and saw what an illness can do to someone.

Sybil's mothers mental illness effected her through the discipline she was put through as a child. All the torture and pain she endured definitely had effected her even to her adult life. I feel like it will help me in the sense of knowing possibly patience and acceptance for people of that nature, also help them possibly overcome and achieve some goals, but as far as knowing exactly what to do or even a slight idea, I don't feel it did. Everyone with multiple personalities is different, they have different triggers and different well personalities. You can never predict the outcome. I have watched many MPD movies and documentaries. For the longest time Doctors thought my brother had it (later to find out he's schizophrenic) So I did a lot of research about it and tried to better understand. So this movie helped me even after finding out about my brothers real disorder.

Her mothers mental illness caused the traumatic experiences that Sybil endured as a child; so ultimately I believe that her mother mental illness lead to Sybil's mental illness. I think that understanding her past is very important, because you never really realize the kind of trauma other people have been through. I think actually seeing it would help more than somebody telling you about it, because it makes the situation more realistic. I enjoyed the movie, and i think that it did help me to understand mental illness better.
