Quote: 2.3 391-395
"How poor are they that have no patience...Dost not go well? Cassio hath beaten thee"
Speaker: Iago To: Roderigo
Context: Iago is trying to convince Roderigo to stay in Cyprus. He wants to leave because he was embarrassed in the fight with Cassio, and his plans to get Desdemona back aren't working.

Significance #1: Character
This passage shows the relationship that Iago presents or pretends to have with Roderigo. In this he gives him advice when he says "What wound did ever heal but by degrees?". This quote is something that a friend would say, which gives illusion to Roderigo that Iago is his friend. This shows that Iago is a manipulative character, because of how he is manipulating Roderigo, and that Roderigo is a character who can be easily manipulated.

Significance #2: Structure
In this passage, Iago is using logos because he is presenting a logical argument. He uses this to convince Roderigo of what he is saying. More specifically, in the quote "What wound did ever heal but by degrees?". The argument falls under logos because he uses a real life example to reason with Roderigo. This relates to Iago being a manipulative and persuasive character, because he is not only presenting an argument with a persuasive technique, the argument ends up working.

Quote: 3.3.147-149
"Men should be what they seem; or those that be not, would be what they seem."
Speaker: Iago To: Othello
Context: Iago is trying to make Othello suspicious of Cassio and Desdemona. He is planting the idea that Desdemona may or may not be cheating
Significance 1: Plot: This furthers the plot as Iago is continuing his plan of taking down Othello and take his position. Iago is saying how people should be honest about themselves, but it seems as if Cassio is not. He is causing Othello to be suspicious of Desdemona, which only worsens since she is constantly talking about him to help get his job back, creating a domino effect.
Significance 2: Characterization: Throughout the play Iago is deceitful and lies to everyone around him, planting ideas in peoples heads and making them act upon them. He is manipulative and secretive, making people do what he wants without them realizing. This quote demonstrates how he is planting an idea in Othellos head to make him do what he wants, in this case, become angry with his wife and make him do something drastic, so that Iago can gain more power as Othello will be gone.

Also, "Make the Moor thank me, love me, and reward me For making him egregiously an ass" this shows us how Iago believes that by the end of his plan Othello will praise him for what he has done and that he will get the job he deserved from the beginning but Iago will still continue to ruin him and mess with him.
