She went violent and started ripping things apart and hurting people around her, including herself. That was somewhat of a negative mental illness.

I noticed in K-Pax that the guy believes he's an alien from another planet. He doesn't lash out or get violent so this must be a non-violent mental illness.

In the beginning she was forced upstairs, isolated, for months to "heal her nerves". She did not have a choice in this situation and as a result of her unstable mind lingering in this room alone, she began to lose her sanity by the day and put it into the yellow walls.
