This research on plants was to show that organisms pass down adaptations to their offspring. Scientists grew plants in natural and dry soil and raised all the offspring in dry soil. The results showed that the plants whose parents had endured drought were more prepared to withstand and adapt to the dry conditions. In demethylated plants however, that effect went away. This evidence leads to the idea that epigenetics had responsibility for this type of adaptation.

Their cycle of sun comes during the day and the water sometimes from rain if you live in oregon. The plant will get traits from its parents from the other plants. For example, you get a plant with white flowers and a plant with red, you get seeds that may be red, white or a mix of both of the plants.

The basis of the research is focused on the stability of Spotted lady’s thumb plants in varying weather conditions. Plants that survived drought conditions resulted in more hardy characteristics, a possible result of DNA methylation patterns. Once these plants produced offspring, the offspring were inspected and were studied and results showed them to be more withstanding to the weathering conditions in a drought. Given the information read, the research shows evidence of epigenetic inheritance because once the plants that withstood the drought conditions, produced offspring, the offspring also showed evidence of better preparation for the “hardship, growing larger seedlings, and setting down deeper roots.” Epigenetic inheritance research is useful because it allows scientists and researchers to explore further into genetic reproduction.

Then, they raised the offspring in dry soil as well. This was to show how they were disrupted 15 per
cent to 20 percent of DNA methylation. It also showed how the plants that were grown in dry soil were better prepared for tough conditions in the environment. The traits that offspring inherit that better suit the parental environment is evolving immensely.
