RL.PK.2 With prompting and support, retell familiar stories or poems.

W.PK.2 Use a combination of drawings, dictation, scribble writing, letter-strings, or invented spelling to share information during play or other activities.

I will do a mini-lesson before reading a book about community helpers to explain that as readers, we should be able to retell what happened in the story and the identify the various jobs of community helpers. I will use an example of a familiar book beforehand so that students can grasp the idea of "retelling" before they are expected to retell the story about community helpers. They will also draw any community helper that they want and try their best to write something about them.

4.1.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities (i.e., the last word stated when counting tells “how many”): (a)Accurately count quantities of objects up to 10, using one-to one-correspondence, and accurately count as many as 5 objects in a scattered configuration.

I will do a lesson on counting to teach the students the skill that they need in order to complete the community helpers worksheet that requires counting "how many"

5.1.2 Observe, question, predict, and investigate materials, objects, and phenomena during classroom activities indoors and outdoors and during any longer-term investigations in progress. Seek answers to questions and test predictions using simple experiments or research media (e.g., cracking a nut to look inside; putting a toy car in water to determine whether it sinks).

I will do a lesson on how scientists are community helpers that help us learn about the world around us. Scientists ask a lot of questions such as who, what, when, where, why, and how to get the answers that they need. I will tell the students that we will act like scientists and do an experiment. I will teach the children what a prediction is beforehand, and we will do a sink and float experiment. We will gather data before and after the experiment to compare how accurate our predictions were.

6.3.2 Identify, discuss, and role-play the duties of a range of community workers.

I will do a lesson on various duties of community workers. I will inform the students that we will be "acting out" those duties so we will need to pay careful attention when learning about their duties. I will inform the students that they will become "experts" on the community workers that they are assigned and pretend that they are in their role to inform others about their importance.
