A sculptor shapes clay, stone, marble, wood, and other materials (even ice and potatoes) into two- or three-dimensional art. To be a sculptor is to be a craftsman. I do everything myself, from start to finish: I mix my own clay, make metal armatures to support my clay sculptures, mold my finished pieces in flexible rubber with rigid plaster backing and cast waxes into the molds, and coat my waxes in heat-resistant ceramic. I pour bronze at 1177 °C into ceramic shells. I break ceramic off using a hammer. I then cut, grind, refine, weld, and finish raw metal. I use chemicals and heat to change the color of raw bronze to one that suits a particular piece, which is a process called patination. I also fashion wood or marble bases for my finished sculptures. I drill, tap, and countersink in order for the sculpture to be mounted properly.

I want to learn how to make such beautiful sculptures, how to learn to be patient, and learn how to work with clay for sculptures correctly. I also really want to get to know the sculptors closer, what they do besides sculptures, how their life develops, whether their work was approved their friends and loved ones, what they had to go through to become famous.
