The songs include Satisfied, Hurricane, You’ve Got Nothing to Lose, I Don’t Need Your Love, Get Down, Lose You to Love Me, Unsaid Emily, True Love, Out of the Woods, and Wait For Me. The songs Satisfied, Lose You to Love Me, Unsaid Emily, Get Down and True Love are all songs that describe Janie’s relationship with Joe. Janie had left her husband to go be with Joe and because she wasn’t satisfied with him and she ended up not loving him either. The song True Love is about making mistakes in love and Janie feels like the dream of true love is a lie after two failed marriages. While the songs Hurricane, Out of the Woods, and Wait For Me, describe Janie with Tea Cake. They experience a hurricane but they have the young love that Janie always wanted but she is questioning. Parsons. I chose this recipe because Janie was known by Tea Cake for her sweet tooth and the deserts she would make him after working. Joe had commented on how Janie loved sweets and it is mentioned by other characters throughout the book. Janie loved to cook, especially for Tea Cake since he appreciated what she did for him. M. Elliot, and I think that the book Their Eyes Were Watching God is similar. In Hamilton and Peggy; A Revolutionary Friendship by L. M. Elliot, Peggy is the main character and the only things that Peggy wanted was to find her true love and to be able to help in the revolution. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie wants to find her true love and she wants to be intellectually equal to her male counterparts and wishes to be seen as more than an object. Both Janie and Peggy go through many guys until they find the one. Peggy had met Varick then Lafayette and liked both but didn’t want to settle until she found the one. A difference between Peggy and Janie is that Peggy only married once and Janie had tried marriage three times to find her true love.
Both Peggy and Janie want to be included in what the men are in their lives. Peggy wanted to help her father and her brother-in-laws with the revolution. Peggy would listen to her father’s conversations outside his office and even became a spy to get information on the british. Janie wanted to learn to play checkers and be included in Joe’s conversations with his friends. However, Joe never let her. But when Janie net Tea Cake, he included her in everything he did. He taught her checkers, how to shoot a gun, and never wanted Janie to leave his side. Tea Cake made Janie feel important. This is how the two books are similar.

I thought this painting was very interesting because the women and children were in regular clothing while the man in the middle is wearing a nicer outfit. This reminded me of the book Their Eyes Were Watching God because Janie and Joe had lived in an all black community in Florida and the community helped each other. Janie and Joe ran the store and they met all kinds of people and helped out many of them. This painting reminds the book because Tea Cake had bought Janie a blue dress and she loved the dress but the rest of the town did not. The characters included in the word cloud are Janie, Logan, Joe, and Tea Cake. Janie married these three men because she thought she had love and she found it with Tea Cake. The only thing Janie wanted was to be loved. I included Pear tree because throughout the book, Janie compares her life to a pear tree.  The events included in the world cloud are hurricane, seeds, gossip, adventure, and equality. Each of these words represent an event that took place in the book. The theme words are love, god and sea. In the novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie battles passion and responsibility multiple times to allow Janie to change and define the work as a whole. Throughout the novel Janie is faced with the conflict of passion vs. responsibility and it allows her to become more independent and find peace at the end of the novel. Hurston uses the conflict to define the novel as a whole and to show the theme of love.
