So what do you think? Is D.I.D. fact or fiction? If you believe it exists as a disorder, explain why. If you believe it doesn't, explain whether or not those who claim to have D.I.D. still suffer from some mental illness. Use evidence from the articles and video to support your claim. Your response should be a minimum of 1 paragraph (5-7 sentences).

I have always been very interested in DID. I believe that it definitely exists as a disorder. I don't believe that anyone would be able to pretend that their children aren't theirs, like in the video about Barbara on EDPuzzle. Also, the fact that their eyesight differs depending on which personality is in the light is a big indication that someone couldn't fake having DID. Parts of people's lives can be so terrifying or traumatic that a new personality comes out of it, just to forget. I suggest watching a TV show called United States of Tara, while it's a dramatic comedy, it still has a very accurate representation of a woman and her family struggling with her DID.

I have no doubt in my mind that DID exists as a mental illness. There has been brain scans that show the difference between those with a normal brain vs those with symptoms such as those displayed in the videos. It's sad to me that there are people that believe those people are pretending, or want to live like this. Just because it's not happening to us, doesn't mean it isn't real. I think that the disorder is real and valid.

In my opinion, I think that DID does exist. Some may think that people that suffer from this disorder are playing, but they could really be at risk of hurting themselves. Having multiple personalities can be hard for these people and they may not know how to cope with it. They'll develop these different personalities as a way to deal with trauma or tragedy. I feel that it is something that is overlooking at times and should be taken more seriously. So yes, I do believe it exist.

I feel like DID is one of the most talked about disorders that we know about. I firmly believe that it exist, even though it maybe caused by environmental factors - it is still a real disease that people have to live with everyday. I also feel that a lot of it has to do with the clinicians believing whether the patient has it or not. There is no doubt that people live with multiple personalities, but the problem is coming to the fact that you have it.

I believe that DID totally exists. Things like having different vision or other physical differences between personalities is extremely hard, if not impossible (in some cases) to feign. I've also read articles before (unrelated to this unit) about how sexual assault victims sometimes detach themselves from reality during their attack. Since the correlation between sexual assault victims and DID is so high, I think that the detachment they experience can form another personality. I don't think people take this disorder serious enough.

I 100% believe that DID is a real disorder. After looking at the article, the video, and doing additional research I believe even stronger. DID is one of those things that have always interested me. As i was looking through different case studies all the patients suffer from some sort of childhood abuse. This childhood abuse is what is known as the stimulant, or what causes the multiple personalities to show. The early child hood abuse cased these people to completely change the way their mind works which is newly known as associative identity disorder. This concept was really shocking to me. I then looked up brain scans on people who suffer from DID and the scans did show a significant difference.

I believe that DID is fact and not fiction. I have actually met a person who has DID and I find it very interesting. Having multiple personalities is used to cope with certain situations. I do not believe that people would pretend to do this, it is not their fault. Like Barbara, she forgot that her kids were actually hers and I doubt any parent would actually be able to pretend to do that.

Before reading the article and watching the video, I believed in DID. Now after learning this extra information, I believe even more in this. I have not met anyone with this disorder, but I have read case studies about patients who suffer from it. Most of the patients in those case studies had traumatic events happen to them in their childhood, such as abuse, which changed how their mind worked. One of these patients in the case study had an imaginary friend when they were 8-9, and when they were older, that imaginary friend became another personalty. So yes, I do believe in DID and I think that it is horrible for any one to have to go through.

I feel like the DID is a real disorder that occurs in everyday life even if it was in this video. Past events from one's childhood can affect the way their personality is now today. I was able to tell the difference between the normal brains and the ones with mental illnesses. Trauma from past events in ones life can affect the multiple personalities that someone can have. Barbara forgot that her children were hers , but anybody that didn't have a mental illness would know that its he or she wouldn't pretend that a child isn't there's.

Personaly I feel like DID is a real disorder that can occur. Events in the past due effect someones personality later on in life. Mental illness and normal brains differ. A past event causes people to have different personalities in ones life. The mother forgot her children, anyway who didn't have a mental illness would tell her that they are her kids.

I believe DID is a legitimate disorder. i read a where there was a case of this, where one personality was allergic to orange juice and the other was not. when the personality with the allergy drank the orange juice, he/she would break out in hives. But when the other personality drank the same orange juice, there was no reaction at all. usually this stems from a severely traumatic event in early childhood, such ass sexual assault, or physical/verbal abuse. the different personalities would "take over" so that they would not be abused or follow the parents instructions to a T so they would avoid conflicts.
