This plant has adapted to the high rain fall, because of the mineral soil that is exposed due to the removal of organic soil layers provides a good seedbed. The owl strong beak helps them catch prey. The northern spotted owl and the Mexico spotted owl inhabit geographically separate locations with different climates and ecosystems.
