Plants that can be found in the temperate rain forest are fireweed, and Skunk cabbage. A fireweed stems grow 4 to 6 feet high and can reach up to 9 feet. This plant has adapted to the high rain fall, because of the mineral soil that is exposed due to the removal of organic soil layers provides a good seedbed. Fireweed occur with short, warm summers and long cold winters. Fireweed tend to occur on a flat to rolling topography. The next plant will be Skunk cabbage, a plant that emerge in spring. This plat adapts to the rain forest , during the winter when temperatures are freezing, the flower buds can warm up to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, which melts the snow around the plant.

There are many different types of animals in the rain forest, down to the smallest ant to the biggest grizzly bear. Two organisms that i will talk about are spotted owls and dormouse.A spotted owl is medium-sized, dark brown owl with a barred tail, white spots on the head and breast, and dark brown eyes surrounded by prominent facial disks. The spotted owl thick features help keep them warm in the cold rain forest. The owl strong beak helps them catch prey. The northern spotted owl and the Mexico spotted owl inhabit geographically separate locations with different climates and ecosystems. Spotted owl home ranges are generally large but of variable size, with extents of 661–14,169 acres. Next is the Dormouse, a small rodent that grows from 6 to 19cm. During they can hibernate for as long as 3 quarters of the year, they make ground nest and curly up in a tight ball.
