The Patience of Prophet Ayyub AS

Perhaps one of the most touching, inspirational stories in the Holy Quran is the story of Prophet Ayyub AS; he was a man of immense faith that was tested with extreme hardship–from his deteriorating health and dwindling wealth to the loss of his own children. Though in the face of all this adversity, his patience never wavered. Prophet Ayyub AS remained steadfast, always relying on Allah SWT for comfort and guidance through his various trials.

In the end, Allah SWT restored all that he lost, thus rewarding Prophet Ayyub AS for his relentless perseverance. Hence, this story goes to show no matter how grim and hopeless the situation is at the time, there is always a way out if one has Taqwa and Sabr.

Inner Battle with Our Nafs

The unfortunate truth is that when we are "free", we tend to be too "lazy" to get up and do something good or productive. Conversely, when we are stripped of our free time, we complain that we are too "busy".

Therefore, this hadith highlights the self-deception that we tell ourselves, leading us to believe that we are victims of "time"; in actuality, we struggle to keep our Nafs in check and overcome our laziness as well as the fact that we tend to overlook the health that Allah SWT blessed us with.

It is a reminder that we should be extremely grateful for these blessings and not take them for granted, as somebody else's situation could be 100x worse than ours.

Alhamdulillah ! We made it to our final class of Usrah 1 for this sem. I was honored to be called up by Sir to share my thoughts regarding the class environment, topics covered, style of teaching, peer camaraderie, and so on. I pray the lessons that Sir taught us remain with me till Jannah, InsyaAllah. May Allah SWT grant us an abundance of success and blessings as we continue our journey of learning at IIUM!
