This memoir was amazing, I would definitely rate it a 10/10. All five stars were well earned because of how entertaining while inspiring the story was. The memoir shows a mix of emotions such as courage, love, hate, fear, etc. The story can easily relate to anyone and people who read this could drown themselves in the pages.

In the beginning of the book Igor's dad used a ladder as a form of 'teaching' to Igor. His father would have him climb a ladder and knock him down. He did this in hopes of curing his fear of hopes.

A lesson of determination proudly drips from this story through Shteyngart's own words. Shteyngart knew his parent would not stand by him yet he proudly pushed forward to reach his goals of writing. AT one Through his parents constant put-downs and verbally cruel words he finds a way to the finish line.
