One activity that would be appropriate at this stage is the Hot Potato Game. The objective of this game is to get to know each other and emphasizes students’ strengths and interest. Directions: Using a hand size ball, students pass the ball from person to person as music is playing, randomly stop the music and whoever is holding the ball has to answer a question. Make sure each student gets a chance to answer a question.
Reference:

Anger Management Small Group Counseling Curriculum #Counselorgoals.

Defining clear expectations of group behavior ruing the first session is fundamental in the effectiveness of group. It is key for the leader to establish a list and general rule to be read. Having students assist in generating a list of rules that would support the group in running smoothly is beneficial in ownership and relevance. Group leaders also have a responsibility in groups that involve children and adolescents to take steps to ensure confidentiality is kept. During the screening process and first group session rules, purpose, and confidentiality are explained and discussed. This can be achieved through teaching and using age appropriate vocabulary in comprehending the purpose and limitation of confidentiality, determine at what time, nature of, and how much personal information to share (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2018). Also, predetermined consequences in regards to breaking confidentiality must be established so that students understand expectations.

During the screening process and first group session rules, purpose, and confidentiality are explained and discussed. Students would be led in a discussion, explanation, modeling of put downs and put up words, such as put downs are unkind words. They hurt people’s feelings and can cause us to lose friends. Put ups are kind words. Put Ups make people feel good and are important in all friendships. Using provided Put Down, Put Up sheets, in pairs students brainstorm and write put downs and put ups in the word bubbles provided. Next, students would be asked to circle the three words/statements that are the friendliest.

Students share responses leading to a discussion of differences of words/statements, meaning, and how they would make them and others feel. Conclude by posting sheets on bulletin board.
Reference:
30 - 60 Minute Lesson Plan: Elementary School, Introduction to the dynamics of bullying.

As a teacher, bullying has been a topic that has been brought to light more than when I was in school. Students don't understand that their words and actions have consequences. There are a lot of activities that can help children understand that. One that is very common that I have used before is the toohtpaste activity. Groups of students are given a plate and a tube of toothpaste. The students are to squeeze the contents of the tube onto the plate. Once the toothpaste bottle is empty the school counselor asks the students to place the toothpaste back into the tube. The school counselor begins asking discussion questions such as "Are you able to get all the toothpaste back in the tube?", "Does the tube look exactly like you found it?", "Can the tube be made perfectly new again?". These questions will spark the discussion hopefully ending with the idea that it can't go back to the way it was and that no matter how much work is done, the toothpaste tube wont be exactly as you found it. The actions you took can't be taken back. With this activity students are able to see that there words cannot be taken back. This activity provides a way for students to visually see how their words and actions can affect someone.

Joanne, R. (2013, July 28). Did I Just Leave The Dollar Tree With That Many Bags?

As a group we will talk about taking a stand against bullying. Each group member will be asked to sign the bullying pledge. Before signing the pledge, each group member will be asked to give an example of how they will speak up when they see bullying, reach out to others who are bullied, and be a friend whenever they see bullying. After each group member has shared the way in which they will uphold the pledge, they will sign the pledge at the same time. This activity will be used during the second to last session.

During this session we will start with the PowerPoint, which lends itself to discussions about anger and the choices we can make when we're angry. Many times, when we get angry we take it out on others.

Then, the group members will be divided into 4 groups. They will write down positive choices they could make when they are angry. Each group will have a different type of behavior to think about: throwing things, giving mean looks, saying mean words, and screaming. Groups will then present their ideas to the entire group.
