Initial Thoughts (Week 1)

I am feeling very eager to start on this assignment, I enjoy video making and web design, so this semester is right up my alley.

Most of the assignments I did at school where in the form of a video, but they were much more formal and less creative in terms of the film.

Right now I'm thinking of making it surrounding a fake earring company with the promo video showing the making process.

Target Audience

The target audience will need to be people who have their ears pierced.
People interested in fashion between the ages of 16 and 30.
The product isn't expensive, so the audience will be regular/low income people.

Journal (Week 2)

Instead of a promo showing the making process of the jewellery, it could be a flashy, fashionable showreel of products available, although this has been done to death.

It could follow a storyline, maybe someone asking someone else out, with the earring being an object that ties their outfit together and giving them confidence.

Treatment

A series of 3 short sequences showing people using the earrings in ways not intended.

A person drops keys in a hole. After makng multiple unsuccessful attemps to get them out, they see their earring in a reflection and use it to fish out the object.

Elsewhere, another person is using a pinboard to put up photos, but runs out of pins. They see their earring in a reflection and use it as their last pin.

Finally, a person uses the earring to press the reset button on a calculator, they try a few times to fit different things in there, before seeing their earring in a reflection and using it to press the button.

At the end, there is a few seconds of a showreel of earring with the brand name on screen with a website url. This is the call to action.

Tone

I want the ad to be a bit humouros. I want the audience to think they're not just ordinary fashion items. They're less expensive and more playful. Not incredibly professional, the brand is on the same plane as the audience, down to earth.

A playful, but still semi-professional font. A good example is the Engage Interactive. The imperfect font, that is still easy to read. After researching fonts. Russo One is the font I will use, it has all the aspects I want and is very easy to read.

Orange - friendly, energetic, playful. Lighter, slightly muted shades, as well as darker brown colours for accentuation.

Attention
Something interesting needs to happen in the first few second, maybe someone losing something and needing to get it out with the earring. The audience will be asking how they will get recover the object.

Interest
Want to make fashionable earrings, show how they look on someone, attempt to convice the audience that they look good.

Desire
By including a few problems people have and overcoming them though the use of the earrings, they're likely to think of more situations they could be useful.

Action
A short showreel showing earrings available will be at the end with a website like and the brand name. This invites the audience to find one they like and an easy access to get it.
