Not Everyone Should Create Content

Name: Bimasakti Day
Class: 12

With the advent of the internet, aspiring to be a doctor, a pilot, a teacher, or an astronaut may seem old-fashioned to many teenagers. Indeed, they are rather plain dreams to begin with. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong on aspiring to work in that profession, but many (but not all) people would prefer to become famous over becoming a teacher.

As a result, many of us resort to the internet to fulfill that dream through content creation in various platforms, such as YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, TikTok, Instagram, etc. Through these apps, some become famous, while most remain unknown and unsuccessful. Those that fail often question themselves and even envy those who are far ahead of the game.

So, what do I have to say about this? It's quite simple. Not everyone should create content. Sure, you may feel the urge to create content and that's totally fine as long as it doesn't become your lifelong obsession.

Why shouldn't everyone create content? The internet is basically free isn't it? And yes, it technically is (unless you factor in the costs of an internet connection, electricity, and the device itself), but not everyone has the capability to create great content. In many cases, there are those who become egotistical and arrogant individuals, flaunting their large fanbase and success, which will always hit them back like a boomerang. And even if they don't have an awful personality, their content might not even be good in the first place. It's even worse when you combine bad content with bad personality, which will pretty much end up in some sort of controversy, especially if they have a large following. Plus, getting a large following and universal acclaim isn't easy and in fact, you're probably not going to achieve it unless you put in some genuine effort in it.

Take it from me, a writer who has dipped his toes into the pool known as writing. Even before I began writing, I had noticed that some stories that I've read were awful in quality (an example would be Isekai Cheat Magician written by Takeru Uchida), which is the reason I became a writer. When I started writing, I noticed that writing good content is not as easy as it looks. Making a good story isn't just writing some story and calling it a day. No, writing a story requires knowledge, imagination, creativity, logic, critical thinking, and various other skills. You won't be making a good story if you have no idea what you're writing and position your work as something different. If you did, people will just skim through your story, stop reading it, and eventually forget that it ever existed. Writing a good story that people will read also takes time and practice, which is something that not everyone has. Your story might be popular in the beginning but lose popularity later, and vice versa. It's simply something that a writer must deal with throughout his career as he refines his craft.

It's not just skills that is required to become a good writer. A good personality is required as you will eventually have to face criticisms of your work from other people. If you cannot take it and snap, resulting in an unnecessarily long argument, your reputation as a writer will be in ruins.

Now, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't be writing content. Everyone can, but you should understand your reason behind why you're going to create one. If you're aiming to become famous, rich, or even both, forget it. But if you have a message to the world, an urge to create something new or something that fulfills your fantasies, go ahead!

Revision of the formal education system, could be a solution

Name : Nurina Hadi
Class : 12

Based on Law No.20 of 2003, formal education is education organized with a systematic, structured, stratified and tiered educational path consisting of basic education, secondary education and higher education. Formal education is education organized in schools, colleges, or other educational institutions. Generally, formal educational institutions are educational institutions that are considered the most supportive of all aspects to improve the knowledge, skills, and competencies of students. This is because it can be said that formal education is the most up-to-date, effective, and efficient type of education in fostering its students in general academic goals or needs. Formal education in Indonesia is mostly carried out by the government. Although educational institutions are built by private foundations, the government still takes a certain portion of the share. In terms of formalities or various document needs received in all institutions alone, formal education has become the number one thing to pay attention to. How not, school and college diplomas are universal documents that are accepted as proof that a person has studied a certain level of education in the entire work environment, as well as other levels of higher education, both in Indonesia and around the world. In addition, in the implementation of formal education, schools or colleges are institutions with various best quality standardizations, because the implementation of formal education must be carried out through organizations and plans that are neatly arranged in carrying out their learning activities. This includes the preparation of curriculum, recruitment of competent staff, and the provision of adequate learning facilities. This quality is also directly supervised by the government with the requirement that it must obtain good accreditation.

My opinion is, if the formal education system in Indonesia is immediately revised with the importance of the process not only these results will produce educated people. For people who are used to being educated by looking at the results alone, they will not care about how or how to get it. No matter the right way or not taken the important thing is that the result is as desired. Therein lies the fault of the system in this country, which allows its protégés to use all means to obtain targeted results. In fact, the method taken should also enter into the assessment of whether the method is right or the method is wrong. Thus it means paying attention to the process to obtain the desired result. If Indonesia is able to change its education system to this way, then it is not impossible that Indonesia will be clean from corruption. It is time for all parties to fight and realize a clean Indonesia from corruption through the field of education. Education can start from an early age at home, parents at home should also try to create prospective educated people, not just smart people.

Wearing the school uniform

Name : Cornellius Hans Lazuardi
Class : 12

Every school in the world has its own regulation about the way to wear. Some schools require students to wear the uniform, while some allow them to wear casual clothes. Besides, many people think that students should wear casual clothes to feel comfortable when studying. However, in my opinion, wearing school uniform is a lot better for three reasons.

The first and most important reason I`d think is to make everyone to feel equal, and make the class less straggler. When students are allowed to wear casual clothes, they will wear what they like, and what they buy. Many students may wear expensive clothes, while the others wear the cheap ones. By the wearing way, they know that who are rich and poor. Therefore, it will make a difference between students and create discrimination, which means there are two group that exist in a school: the wealthy and the poor ones. Besides, wearing many kinds of clothes can make the class look like a mess. For example, few students wear red clothes, some wear blue clothes, while some wear clothes that have many colors, and they all study in a class. When teachers look the whole class, they will feel that it is not so different from a big and colorful mess. Thus, I think schools should require students to wear uniform to prevent this situation.

The second reason is that wearing uniforms can help everyone know they are students and their schools. This is very convenient in many aspects. For instance, if a student does a lot of good things such as helping old people, or returning the things that they have collected, people will think that the student are taught very well, and of course, the school`s fame are getting appraised. Thus, the school’s reputation is spread out, which is very helpful for the school. Besides that, when students do bad things, their schools will know more easily and have suitable ways to punish them.

The third reason is that wearing school uniforms is a beautiful tradition and very meaning to students. The uniform has existed for thousand years and many schools still keep it until now. Wearing uniforms is a beauty of schools’ cultural and there is no reason to remove that tradition. In addition, the uniforms show the prettiness of every student. Male students look stronger, and female students look more beautiful while wearing uniforms. Moreover, wearing them in a long time could make students to feel sympathetic with them, and to love their uniforms and schools more.

In conclusion, wearing school uniforms is better than wearing what students want. It is not only convenient, but also very important to the school and students. Besides that, it is also a beautiful cultural of a school. Therefore, although few people do not like to wear them, students should wear them, and feel proud of them because it is the symbol of their school.

Boring video games =/= Bad video games

By: Danendrabbani R.D.L 12th grade

Reader, you might look at my title and say "But Danen aren't video games supposed to be fun?" And to that i say yes, but there's more to it than that. When it comes to telling stories video games have an advantage that books, movies and tv shows might not have, or at least can utilize more effectively than they do, video games have the advantage of being able to convey emotions to the player and make the player feel what the game wants them to feel extremely easily by simply using the fact that the player is playing the game.

Experiencing a story quite literally through the eyes of your protagonist by simply being the protagonist is something that books, movies, tv shows or comics can't provide, therefore the player's emotions can be easily used by a video game to make them feel things, for the story, characters, events in the game and etc, for example when you're playing a mystery game wether or not the story progresses depends entirely on if you, the player, solve whatever mystery is within the game, experiencing this by simply watching it happen will NOT be the same.

So why have i said all this? I haven't even gotten to my main point yet, well like I said emotions are an easy tool for a video game to use against the player and this includes the feeling of boredom, what do I mean by this? well some video games might use the feeling of boredom to tell a story in a unique way, for example there's a game titled Kingdom Come Deliverance, this game is set in the Medieval era and the game has garnered a lot of criticism for being boring, this isn't exactly a bad thing because Kingdom Come Deliverance is more so supposed to be a simulation or an emulation of how medieval life was like back then instead of an Epic Fantasy Adventure like let's say Skyrim, not every moment in Kingdom Come Deliverance is going to be filled with action or drama or anything that you'd expect from an actual action packed adventure game because life simply isn't like that even back again with all the wars and battles and what not, sometimes there are just quiet Moments in people's lives and that's not to say that the game doesn't have action or drama, there is a story in the game and you do fight a lot of enemies in the game it's just you don't do that right from the start or all the time, you have to learn how to fight you have to learn how to cook you have to learn how to read books because reading just wasn't a common thing back then. The game purposefully throws quiet, peaceful and again, boring moments at the player because that's just simply how it was back then, it's just the way life is, it's a completely intentional artistic decision that conveys and tells the story in a unique way, this is not an action packed fantasy Adventure this is a glimpse of how life was back then.

Another, lighter example of this phenomenon is in the game titled Your turn to die, in this game the protagonist, Sara, her friend Joe, and a bunch of strangers are kidnapped into an unknown building and forced to play a death game. While I was playing this game I did not like and did not care about certain characters because they simply didn't connect with me and didn't have a lot to do in the story, but later on as the story progresses and more of the mysteries of this death game is unveiled I look back on those characters, how they acted, their involvement in the story, their relationship to the protagonist and I think to myself, " you know what, those characters were actually very well written", just not in the way that you would think, they might be boring and you might dislike them as you play the game, but as you progress through the story and unveil more of the mysteries, it becomes apparent that that's completely the point, they are supposed to be boring, they are supposed to be unlikable and that's completely okay, those characters being the way they are, are intentional intentional decisions meant to convey who they are as characters and their involvement in the story.

So my point is that any kind of emotion can be used in a video game to make the player feel what the game wants them to feel, even boredom and the fact that some games are boring does not automatically make them bad games, as long as the boringness of those games are intentional, if it's not, then it's a bad game of course.

Bullying is a negative behavior, negative behavior that results in a person being uncomfortable/injured and usually occurs repeatedly which is marked by an imbalance of power between the perpetrator and the victim, the level of bullying that occurs in Indonesia is increasing even now bullying can occur indirectly or it can happen. done on social media. Bullying occurs not only physically but verbally as well. there are even some educational institutions or so-called schools there are some teachers who bully their own students I think that's not an example of good behavior, maybe the victim made a mistake but maybe the way of action to reprimand or solve the problem is very unethical, and many more examples bullying in Indonesia.

but the point is that bullying is not a way to solve a problem, there are still many ways that can be done, maybe by calling the person concerned and then doing mediation and if he is guilty, he is advised, honestly, the impact of bullying is very dangerous. Victims of bullying usually experience a fairly high level of stress and make them not confident in the surrounding environment.

Not everyone have to directionally aim best skill based on ur school grades. I personally don't think it's a right way to see someone's quality by their school grades mark. There are 2 type of way to see ppl's skill, first we had the "Hard skills" and then we had "Soft skills". I'm thinking Indonesian education standard system was adopting the "Hard skills" Which that means "The more u work hard for ur school grade, the more u can success in the future". Hm I think it's not the best determiner tbh. Cuz nowadays "School nerds" not gonna be used for modernity of global. So I think all the gov and stuff like that can re-structure the Indonesian educational system, cuz nowadays I commonly saw people had the "Soft skills" more. And I guess gov should really take seriously on that. I think gov really should give a grind for that ppl who had "Soft skills" cuz maybe one day they gonna be success in the future and gonna be the "Diamond of the Indonesia" and can raise Indonesia's status in the eyes of the world. And such as providing encouragement or emotional help like giving lots of English study, cuz we need to learn global language to prevent "Duping" from the colonizer.

TikTok, fast fashion and microtrends: how to be a mindful clothing consumer.

By: Jessica Ang (12th grade)

It may seem like such a trivial topic, but clothing waste is at an all time high in recent years and it's extremely detrimental to our environment. With the presence of TikTok and these so called 'micro-trends', we may be pressured to consume and keep buying clothes without being mindful of the environmental consequences. Thrifting is a great example of how to be more mindful when buying clothes. There are lots of small, online thrift shops these days that offer a wide variety of clothing with really affordable prices. I think that thrifting can also be a way to develop your own personal style instead of buying a distinct sweater from H&M then running into someone who's wearing the exact same thing.

We can't deny that social media has obviously affected the way we style ourselves and we may be tempted to dress just like everyone else. But the issue with social media and fashion is how fast they recycle trends and that's terrible for the environment. I remember back in 2021, everyone wanted a pair of Demonia platform boots but it was just a microtrend. Now everyone's Demonias are just somewhere in their closet gathering dust. Instead of giving into microtrends, you should invest in fashion pieces that are timeless and easy to style. Go for a high-quality blouse and a pair of timeless sneakers instead of multiple, cheaply made crop tops. These things will serve you better in the long run and they're really easy to style.

I've concluded that for a fact, fast fashion is definitely unavoidable and not everyone can buy ethically made clothing. But you should be mindful when going shopping and think about the longevity of the clothing item. A question checklist could go like...
1. "Am I buying this impulsively?"
2. "On what occasions will I wear this?"
3. "Do I have any shoes that will match this?"
Just by being mindful and buying less clothing, you're already doing some good for the environment. Be a mindful shopper and not a victim of capitalism!

How to Organize a School Binder

By: Emily Cassidy (12th grade)
There are multiple ways to organize school materials using binders, notebooks, folders, and accordion files. This guide will teach you how to organize a school binder. The binder set-up I teach below can work for middle school, high school and college students.

Tips for choosing a school binder

Staples, Amazon, and Target are full of school binder options: zipper, 3-ring, ones with pockets, ones with velcro. The rule is to choose a binder with the least friction. In other words, choose one that is easy to open, easy to close, and easy to add papers to.

More tips for choosing an academic binder:

Choose a 3-ring binder only if you plan to use folders inside

Avoid 3-ring binders without using folders; otherwise, you’ll have to hole-punch all your papers.

Choose a binder with a solid front and back cover. Avoid flimsy covers.

Velcro-close binders are a good choice if you often carelessly throw things in your backpack. Velcro can keep the covers from getting jammed.

Avoid zipper binders if you feel rushed at the end of class. Zippers are friction.

What size school binder to get

Three-ring binders come in many sizes, from .5 inch to 6 inches. (That’s huge; don’t get that one.) Purchase the smallest size possible that fits all your subjects without jamming your papers on the rings.

First, think about how many courses you will use your binder for. For one class, a 1-inch binder is usually enough. If you will use your binder for five classes, then you might need a 3 or 4-inch binder.
Second, think about what you will put inside your binder. I talk about different binder sections and materials further down in this blog post. Things to consider: will you be adding folders? A pencil pouch? Notebooks or loose-leaf paper? The more you add, the larger the binder needs to be.

Other school binder materials you may need

In addition to the actual binder, you will likely need a few other items to keep your school binder organized:

Folders

Tabbed dividers

Pencil pouch (optional)

Slim 3-hole punch

Loose-leaf paper (lined, graphed)

Notebooks with 3-hole punches

How to organize your school binder: Setting up the sections

The front section

If you are keeping a pencil punch in your binder, it goes in the front. The first section of your binder is also where you clip in your slim 3-hole punch. We don’t put these in the back, because they create bumpy writing surfaces. The last item to go in the front section is a copy of your schedule. You can use a sheet protector (Another option is to slip your schedule inside the plastic pocket on the outside cover of your binder if it comes with one.)

The middle section

If you’re using your school binder for multiple classes, you need a section for each class. Use tabbed dividers to separate these sections. Label the tabs with your class names.

For each class section, you will need a folder and paper. Unless you plan to hole-punch all your papers (really?), use the folder for handouts and worksheets. For paper, you can use loose-leaf or a 3-hole-punched single-subject notebook. Up to you.

The first item to add in each section, right up front, is frequently used reference materials. This would include a periodic table for chemistry class, a formula reference sheet for math, etc. Slip these in sheet covers, or hole punch them.

Next, add your syllabus if you have one. If it’s only available online, print it out.

Next, add your loose-leaf paper or notebook. If using loose-leaf paper, start with 20 sheets or so. You can always add more.

Lastly, add your class-specific folder.

Here is an outlined recap of the items that go in each class section. I list them in the order I suggest you add them to your binder.

Tabbed divider with the class name written on the tab

Reference materials stored in a sheet protector

Syllabus

Loose-leaf paper or notebook

folder

The last section

The last section of your school binder, behind each of your divided class sections, is a separate section for papers that aren’t for any specific class. This would include permission slips, forms for extracurriculars, password lists, etc. Use another labeled tabbed divider for this section. You may also want to add a folder so that you don’t have to hole-punch everything you add here.

Tips to keep your school binder organized

Knowing how to organize your school binder and set it up in a friction-free way is the first step. Follow the tips above to create a binder that’s easy to use and add to. The second step is to keep your binder organized throughout the school year.

To keep your papers and materials organized, be sure to go through each class section regularly (weekly or monthly) to:

throw away old papers

move out-of-place materials to the correct spot

remove unit notes and papers that you no longer need (clip them together and take them out of your binder until you need them for a final)

empty the front pocket of whatever papers you crammed in there

add new loose leaf paper to empty sections when necessary

Other tips for keeping your binder organized:

If your teacher gave you any materials digitally and you’d prefer them on paper, print them out and store them in your binder.

You can use the inside front-cover pocket to store homework that needs to be submitted the next day. But, don’t leave worksheets in this pocket for more than a day or two.

If your school binder falls apart or breaks during the year, get a new one.

By : Umara Thalita Malika (12th grade)
Bullying is a behavioral act of degrading or humiliating a person that results either physically, verbally, or through technology (cyber) to create a sense of vulnerability towards the victim. According to UNESCO, 45% of reported cases amongst Indonesian adolescents and adults ranging from 14-24 years old claimed that they had experienced cyberbullying. Albeit cyberbullying has been qualified as a form of harassment in Indonesia, soaring cases have been said otherwise. There are multiple explanations on why there is still bullying among the people. One of those explanations are subtle manipulation and gaslighting. Manipulation is an act of manipulating someone in a transparent way. On the other hand, gaslighting is a psychological act that is inflicted on a certain person that makes them question their own decisions and sanity. The causes of these psychological thinking most likely start in their childhood or their parents' responses. Their parents might not have fulfilled their child's needs of availability, self assurance, and approval. The lack of these important elements takes a toll on the child, making them create their own rules and gratifications. As they mature throughout the years, they are able to adapt to these responses and act to a dangerous extent. So, why do they bully human beings? What is their motivation? They are motivated to crumble others down to complete their own feeling of superiority. A superiority complex is born from their childhood, but also their insecurities. This blind-sidedly creates a perception of self control as leverage to fill their own emptiness inside.
