It is about using our gifts and skills to influence other people in doing the same. We should all try our best to understand our community as a way of helping not just our community's growth but our personal and social growth as well.

- Chloe

My key takeaway from the orientation is that the program is called Bigkis so we can bundle up together and work for the common goal of getting to know our kapwa and learning more about them. Through this, we should be able to apply what we learn in our chosen courses to be able to help them. This program is mainly about empowering everyone involved and work together towards a better and brighter future for all. I love how this will not only help the community we will be assigned to but it will also widen our horizons and give us opportunity for personal growth.

-Cyan Joven

Even if this immersion is online, it can still provide some valuables insights as long as we allow it to. After all, we should continue to help even remotely. I believe that when you go through an immersion, it is not solely you giving something to the community, but the community allows you to learn new things as well.

My main takeaway from the Bigkis Program Orientation is how relevant "Bigkis" is during these trying times especially since we have been isolated from other people in the previous months. With that said, there is a challenge as to how we will be able to undergo the process of honing our Ignatian Spiritualities given the current online setup. Hopefully, we can make the most out of the program by doing our best to become men and women for others through the activities that will be done in class.

This orientation lets me see how I can connect this character formation with my course since with design thinking, we should always practice empathy. With this program, we'll be attempting to address the concerns of others while considering their context and that will need a lot of genuine openness to engage with the communities. Not just visual/graphic design but design thinking in general means allowing the people/stakeholders to dictate the design/intervention, and not the other way around where we impose a "solution" without considering their stories/lives.

-Mar Leaño

My main takeaway from the orientation is servanthood. It's using whatever I know, learned from in the past and incorporate them to be of help to the community. That being in a prestigious school is not about having all privileges to myself, but to use it as a platform to be able to serve others more. This program also serves as an opportunity for us to develop humility. To understand that we are not the bearer of knowledge, but that we are learners/ students trying to understand their needs and how we can be of help to them.
- Abigail Tiu

The key insight I got from this introductory module had to do with the rationale behind the program name, "Bigkis". I think it's great that we have a word that encapsulates the idea that we are at our best when we are united and collaborating with each other.

The use of the word bigkis also alludes to how true service isn't helping others so much as it is becoming one with them. I remember this quote from an article in my previous Theo class:

"If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together."

It is important for us to not act like we are any better than the community we will meet - bigkis means to work with others for the betterment of our community, rather than just for others.

Through Bigkis, we are able to apply these understandings to each of our own unique contexts and abilities as a way to connect with others, especially towards the marginalized. It is also important to remember our previous learnings about pakikipag-kapwa and other communal values as we reach out and serve our future communities later on in the program.

- Kat Lee

In this very scary time we are in now, it is important that we keep in touch with everyone regardless of distance and make sure that everyone is being taken into consideration. We cannot solely rely on our government officials due to many reasons; therefore, we should take that first step and initiate the change ourselves. - Shanee Dylim

My main takeaway from the Program Orientation is that as important as it is to be an excellent student it being a good person and human being is equally as valued in the education provided by Ateneo. I like the point about how education is a transformative experience, to develop all the aspects of a student's self including their knowledge and personality. As important as it is to develop the self it is also important to see that there is a world outside the self that needs changing. In immersing myself in PUNLA and in the future implementation of BIGKIS where I will be collaborating with a community, I feel like I will learn that collaborating with and caring for others is also enriching to one's character as an individual and connecting to and helping others is important to both them and myself as human beings.

With this in mind, I'll keep an open mind to the online process despite the differences it has from physically interacting with our communities.

My key takeaways from this module is that, through Bigkis, we would gain new insights on how our fields of interest could help make a positive impact towards marginalized communities. By building on our experiences from Binhi and Punla, we are also developing a discipline that would help us gain a deeper understanding of communities of different backgrounds. Hence, we should continue to be open in learning about the community by interacting with them as a kapwa. In doing so, we get to learn of different opportunities for growth, not just for ourselves, but for the community as well.

My key takeaway from this orientation module is really that the Bigkis program aims to help us better imbibe the Ignatian values of being men and women for and with others. Through this course, I look forward to being more inclined to engage with the people in my community - especially those who I can help out.

My takeaway from Module 0 is that learning must not end with mere theories, but with action. Formation programs like Bigkis pave way for us to find common grounds with our partner-communities. Hopefully, through the interactions, we may be able to extend some form of help to them in the same way that they, too, are helping us.

183568 - Julia Isabelle A.

Perhaps my biggest takeaway from the orientation roots from the meaning of the program title, "Bigkis", which means bundle. I like how the program aims to integrate what we've learned in the past 3 years "into a bundle" and put it into something that can help the school's partner communities. At the end of the day, we should really be serving with the skills we've learned, and Bigkis gives us an opportunity to do so through the engagements. However, like what what was mentioned in the orientation, there's a certain discipline required to maximize the potential of this "bundle" of skills, which is all the more important given online classes. Thus, I'll keep in mind to attend to the requirements of my subjects so that the engagements will ultimately be more meaningful.

My key takeaway from the orientation is the call to action or "kilos". As individuals in a society, we must use what we have to experience, reflect, and act. Through these steps, we are able to enrich ourselves but most especially lift those we aim to help. In Bigkis, we are now encouraged to use what we have learned in the past few years to actively participate and engage ourselves in working towards a goal.

My main takeaway from the Bigkis Orientation is that our ability to listen can impact our participation in the program, specifically on how we gain value and give value to our partner communities.

I believe that this opportunity provides the first step into learning that our very awareness of the different realities experienced by our partner communities requires a corresponding action, and how we aim to execute it will be shaped by this program.

My key takeaway is that this program provides us an opportunity to act as "kapwas" to our fellow countrymen. In addition to this, our interacting with them goes further with the aim of creating meaningful dialogue that seeks to establish real empathy and understanding. This initiative becomes a safe space for exchange, as we seek to position ourself not so distantly from our own people.

My key takeaway from Module 0 is that as part of the InAF program, Bigkis aims to help us be more socially and culturally aware of the things happening to us. It is a continuation of previous programs (Binhi and Punla) and invites us to further get to know our kapwa, especially with all that is happening to our country at this time. With that, I really appreciate how Bigkis' English translation is "coming together". As Filipinos, we have to come together for inclusive and social development.
Furthermore, I also realized that with the new rules and additional set of guidelines (compared to my Binhi and Punla experiences), Bigkis will be a challenge because we have to deal with the new normal and I feel that this online experience is really not the same compared to meeting the communities face to face.

My key take away is simply just being aware and mindful of the people around you regardless of association or their role in your personal life. As we are all stuck in our own homes, busy finishing our modules, it is quite easy to be locked in our own little bubble without a care in the world. Thus, NSTP reminds us that it is our duty as humans to be able to connect with other communities aside from our own.

My insights form the orientation is to always be considerate. NSTP is not the same as it has been for the past years and everyone (students, partner communities, and even moderators) are still adjusting. Also, we should still try our best to reach out to them despite our situation. We have more to learn and contribute now more than ever and it is really important that we leave our mark there. We should take advantage of what we can do but not push it to the point where we might seem forceful. We should be open to adjusting and helping the communities feel more comfortable.
