The thirty-four year old illustrator grew up in Hollywood, California and lived with his grandmother, brother, aunt and two cousins. Christian was determined to create a world of his own and would often bring his images to life in his drawings. Later on in his life he pursued to study his craft even further by attending the California Institute of the Arts. Christian collaborated with major companies such as the "The Sesame Workshop" and "Pixar Animation Studios" prior to illustrating children's books (2019, October 8). When creating images for his children's books, I have seen a pattern of genres that includes: fantasy and fiction. One of the mediums that I admire Christian Robinson incorporates in his works would be that he tends to include illustrating characters that are from diverse cultures. The perfect examples would be "School's First Day of School" and "You Matter". Parents, children and notable individuals  from all cultural backgrounds can be seen on each page.

Christian has mentioned that his goal is to take charge and create a limitless world through animation. His illustrations also emphasis that all children are able to accomplish whatever they desire and that we are all the same no matter what obstacles we may face. I say this because the illustrator has drawn characters in the story that are realistic to my ethnic background which compelled me to become deeply entranced in the storyline of "You Matter". During my time of grade school, African American characters were not a common sight for me to view during storytime activities. I connected with previous characters I have come across in past but visually I did not witness this. I believe that if I were to share "You Matter" with my students today, they will be able to point out someone in the story that looks similar to them and they will feel that they matter as well, even after hearing that they complete the story.
