This chapter explained how significantly the effort that students put into their work contributes to their overall success and how important it is to motivate students to continue to work hard and never give up in order to see personal and academic growth. The correlation between students' efforts and their achievements may have to be brought to their attention by allowing them to keep track of their scores while using a rubric to evaluate the level of effort they put forth during each assessment. Sometimes, students have predetermined ideas about whether or not they will be successful at a particular subject based on family history or past experiences, and it is important to teach them that they can overcome any obstacles that are standing in the way of their success
through hard work and determination.

There are many convenient ways a teacher can provide recognition to his or her students other than the traditional smiley face or sticker on their work, such as: personalized certificates or badges, peer and teacher recognition through various data collection and analysis tools by allowing students to anonymously post work that is being evaluated based on a rubric with clear expectations set
forth by the instructor, or photo galleries on the web, to name a few.

Recognizing students for their achievements gives them confidence, builds self esteem, and motivates them and others around them to continue to take pride in their work. Also, helping students set and achieve attainable goals enables them to understand the connection between their efforts and improvement in their scores and teaches them positive study habits and effective strategies that they can utilize throughout their school years.
