Gender Equality is when no matter if you are a man or a woman you are viewed equally and are treated the same. It is something many women and girls have been fighting for and working toward, and though we have come a long way there is still much to do.

The intentional feminism movement began to be acknowledged in the 1970s and in 1975 the General Assembly declared it was International Women's Year. The first women's world conference was held in Mexico City. Gender Equality needs to be happening everywhere for it to stop being a problem. As of now, women worldwide are still fighting the fight they have been for hundreds of years.

Gender equality is important because no one should be treated any differently because of their genitals. People whether identifying as a man or woman should be treated equally in a work environment or just publicly. For many years the wage gap has been immense as have other issues and though it may look like men and women of the same field are being paid the same, many are still fighting for equal wages. Sustainable Development Goals are global initiatives that have many steps for us to become a good nation. Sustainable Development cannot happen without gender equality.

Gender equality is becoming more common now, and more people are standing up for women's rights. One of the biggest issues women face today is sexual violence. One in every three women has experienced sexual violence and even though some countries have improved in other areas, sexual violence is still at large. Sexual violence against women has always been a continuous issue, and although it isn't talked about as much, so is sexual violence against men.
