The Navajo Code Talkers were a group of Native Americans that encoded, transmitted, and decoded messages for the United States Marines. They worked in the Pacific theater, where they transmitted information like troop movements and orders. This was especially helpful because the code was their native language, and the Japanese were never able to decipher it.
-Ruth Ann Carlson

Despite the achievements of the Navajo Code Talkers, they had to over come a lot of discrimination. This is because many people didn't want them to use their native cultural in anyway, even though this same cultural had a language that was an excellent code to use. Through the time the code talkers worked, many of them earned military awards like purple hearts, silver stars, good conduct metals, and combat infantry badges. Yet, it wasn't until 2000 that they had an important accomplishment, they were recognized by the United States for how much they helped in the war. This was when the government passed legislation that honored them, providing gold and silver congressional metals.
-Ruth Ann Carlson

They won their first battle on an island near Italy so the Allied forces could have access to the sea lanes to Sicily. They were later positioned in Monte Cassino, were they had successful bombings, and many places in Germany. Since the airmen were fighter planes they protected the bombers and too down the Axis planes and their bombers.
-Kate McCabe

The Tuskegee Airmen faced many discriminations throughout their career because they were a part of the only African American unit in the army. The Jim Crow laws were still in effect while the Tuskegee Airmen took flight, so they faced discrimination through separation from the rest of the army, deprived officer positions, and denied access to certain areas on the army base. Though they faced many struggles they were still able to accomplish many things through their time in the service, in example: 179 bomber escort missions, only loosing 27 altogether, 112 enemy aircrafts destroyed in the air, 150 enemy aircrafts destroyed on the ground, and 40 boats and barges destroyed. With all of these amazing accomplishments they were able to get some amazing awards like the, 96 flying crosses for 95 airmen, 162 bronze stars, 65 silver star, 8 purple hearts, and 744 air medals.
-Kate McCabe

The Nisei Army units were split into different parts, one of them being the 100th infantry battalion which was composed of many members of the Hawaiian National Guard. Another part of the Nisei Army units was the 442nd Infantry Regiment, which was composed of soldiers with Japanese ancestry. These two groups were later combined together. The word Nisei Army units means the people in the units were from immigrant families. The 100th battalion's first fight was in North Africa where they were taking down the Italy campaign. The 100th battalion earned it's nickname "Purple Heart Battalion" when it fought at Monte Cassino trying to take over an old monastery. The two units were fighting in Northern Africa, Anzio, Rome, and constantly attacking German forces. These two infantry units were involved in land battles.
-Kate McCabe

The 442nd Infantry unit faced many discriminations on and off of the battle field. Many Americans were still skeptical of the Japanese Americans when they joined the army. Even when they returned home they thought they would be considered war heroes, not still faced with discrimination. The 100th infantry battalion also faced many discriminations. The white officers were sent to test the units loyalty to their country. The two groups together got 21 medals of honor, the congressional gold medal, and 9,486 purple hearts. The 442nd unit took Hill 140, which took many weeks, directly after that the 100th battalion worked to take over the town Castellina Marittima, they manged to take it over having to spend the night holding it down.
-Kate McCabe

Many people had face discrimination in WASP. They had faced discrimination because it was World War ll and it was in the 1900's and they were women trying to be a part of the Air Force. At this time many people (men) thought that women couldn't do the same things as men could. The women of this group were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal which is one of the highest civilian award in the U.S. These women had accomplished the fact that they showed they were as strong as men which was one of the problems during the war of women being discriminated against.
-Haley Kratzer
