This is a great way to incorporate not only student vocabulary but it can help the students and the teacher keep track of mastery. I would love to use this either as a stand alone station for individual students, or as a way to track a class's mastery of vocabulary terms. Items in the first column could be retaught to the entire group after formative assessment, for example.

Having a word wall that is NOT in alphabet order contributes to vocabulary rich environment in some unique ways. It gives students the opportunity to see words in a way that they will usually see them every day -- mixed up with other ones!

Utilizing pictures on word walls can give context or additional meaning to vocabulary words, which can be helpful for ELL/ESE students or students that have a hard time reading. Though photos are used, they are included to give additional context to vocab terms and that can be important in a vocabulary rich learning environment.

This word wall is a bit different. The students made the cards/definitions for the word wall, and I think this is a powerful tool that can contribute to a vocabulary rich environment while helping students own their learning by having them make the vocabulary cards.
