I could use this tool in the classroom by reading a story from the site to the class. Prior to reading, I could use images/visuals from Raz Plus ELL for background knowledge. After reading I could have students access and re-read the story independently or with a partner. Then I could ask students to use RAZ-Plus ELL vocabulary activities or comprehension questions to reinforce understanding (i.e. vocabulary/picture match or fill in the blank sentence completion.

I would use newsela as a whole class to help teach different topics, especially in science and social students. But I would really like to use it for my higher students, this is a great way to challenge those higher students without spending too much time differentiating classwork. I have a couple students who love learning new things and with the built in quizzes it is a great way to keep them accountable.

This tool has a lot of ELL support features available on their website. By turning on "ELL & extra support" for a student, they have the availability of a few different features to support them. They are: vocab support, simplified questions, audio options to listen while they read, sentences frames, and language specific directions. These tools allow for students to independently work and increase their english language skills. This would be helpful in the classroom because they don't need additional teacher support. They can access the content on their own.

In my classroom, I would use RAZ-Plus ELL Edition to support my English Language Learners (ELLs) with both their reading comprehension and language development. With RAZ-Plus ELL Edition, I would encourage them to listen to the audio versions, allowing them to hear proper pronunciation and intonation, which is vital for language learners. One of the most valuable features is the vocabulary support. I would print out vocabulary cards and use them in a variety of activities, such as matching games, flashcards, or categorization tasks. For example, if we’re reading a story about seasons, I would have students group vocabulary words (e.g., “winter,” “summer,” “spring,” “fall”) under the correct season. They would also practice forming sentences with these words to reinforce both comprehension and sentence structure. To help my students improve fluency, I would assign them daily practice with the RAZ-Plus books that have corresponding fluency passages. These passages come with a built-in recording feature, so students can listen to their own reading and track their progress over time. I would also use the “record and listen” tool to help them self-monitor and improve pronunciation and fluency.

I would incorporate this tool into my classroom during our independent reading block and also for nightly reading for my ELL students. I would like to try it as an independent activity for students to use. I also like the idea of using the vocabulary words to help my ELL students with their vocabulary development.

I would use this tool by assigning different articles based on math to my students to show them how important the basics of math is and also how math and ELA go hand in hand. I would have students partner up and first discuss what each of their articles were about and some interesting facts they learned from reading it. Next, I would have them compare how their articles were similar and different by filling out a Venn Diagram. Under the diagram, the students would have to write a takeaway that they thought was interesting from their partners article.

I would use this digital tool in my classroom during small group instruction time. While I am working with strategy groups, I could have my students independently reading a story at their level. They can complete the vocabulary and comprehension activities so that I can monitor their progress. I also think that it is great that I can change settings to have it read to them or have them read it to themselves or with a partner.

I currently use Razz kids with level aa and level a readers for my special education self-contained classroom. These leveled readers are great for my non-verbal and verbal students. Some of my students come from Spanish speaking homes. I like that I am able to print out and send home Spanish versions of their weekly assigned leveled readers in the classroom to review at home. I could use ReadWorks to build vocabulary in my speech and language sessions. I could pre-teach key vocabulary from a ReadWorks passage using flashcards, visuals, or real-life objects. Then, I could incorporate the words into the session by playing games like "I Spy" or using them in sentences to aid in articulation, receptive language and expressive language. I could also use the differentiation tool to translate new vocabulary to the student’s first language.

I really like newsela to use as a differentiation tool for the entire class. On newsela you can change the level of the text for students so it is more fitting for their individual level. Additionally, students can find resources in Spanish on newsela. Additionally, you can assign quizzes on newsela which is a great feature to assess students on their level.

I think ReadWorks would be a great addition to my speech and language therapy sessions, especially since I work with special education students who are also ELLs. of varying levels. I would utilize the ELL support features to enhance their understanding of targeted vocabulary within the passages, as well as provide the necessary scaffolds for my ELL students to be able to complete an assigned task independently to better assess their skills and progress toward their language IEP goals. Providing the directions in both English and their native language eliminates the concern of language difference versus language disorder as well, and provides a bilingual approach to enhancing their understanding of the presented materials during the therapy session.

I would use Raz Kids with my ELLs for texts that have available tranlsations in their home languages. I think it is so important to have native language support. Also, I would use the vocabulary units to supplement vocabulary instruction in class. I would use these when I push in to classes during their daily 5 activities.

In the support role at the high school level I am in, I would suggest that teachers use Newsela. Teachers can use Newsela to teach current events and also to focus on content area topics, such as, Science, Social Studies, and ELA. I like the translation feature that allows articles to be translated to Spanish. Unfortunately, articles can only be presented in English and Spanish. Being able to change lexile level is important, as teachers can adjust these according to student ability. Newsela also partners with Nearpod, so since the district that I support has Nearpod licensing, I can look for Newsela articles in Nearpod and assign to students. With this, students can use the Immersive Reader for text to speech and for translation to other languages aside from Spanish.

I would use this tool in the classroom by using it for both whole group and small group instruction. I would use the books as a read aloud or guided reading activity. The lessons come with a lot of graphic organizers, which are perfect to use before, during, and after reading. I would also use all of the vocabulary resources - the charts, cards, and quizzes would all be great tools for using in large and small groups.

I would be able to utilize Raz-plus in my classroom to strengthen listening, reading, speaking and writing skills in my classroom.

I would choose a book for each student based on their reading level and I would place each student into groups (learning centers).

I would have each student listen to the auditory version first in order to listen to the story and pronunciation.

Students will also be able to recognize vocabulary terms that they know and understand and possibly write a word or two that they do not understand.

In each station/center, students can work on the different skills in the target language. When it comes to writing about their stories in English; I would provide students with pictures, prompts, sentence starters and a vocabulary list to reinforce their writing skills in the target language.

Students may also complete vocabulary activities from the book where open-ending questions can reinforce their understanding of the material in the target language.

I would integrate this tool in multiple ways in my stand-alone ENL classes. I could utilize the ELL vocabulary book series. These books are thematically organized and provide pattern books. Students also have the option to listen to books, allowing them to hear correct pronunciation and intonation. I also like to incorporate choral and pair reading. We would read the book aloud together to build fluency. Then, they could also read the ELL book packs in pairs to help with content-based vocabulary and grammar support. Depending on the students' proficiency levels, they could listen to a book, read at their own pace, and even record themselves. Then, they could take comprehension quizzes, which give me data on their understanding.

I find Readworks to be extremely invaluable to students in improving their reading comprehension skills. I love how you can differentiate based on grade and skill level, and can include extra supports for ELL or students with IEPs such as read aloud features, vocabulary break down and simplified questions. The teacher can assign a reading passage based on topic along with reading comprehension questions. Students can view it on a board, the reading can be printed, or students can be assigned the reading through the website Readworks. I love the reading mindset snapchat feature to check in with students and see how they are feeling/progressing with the assigned reading passage provided throughout the semester.

I would use Newsela with ELLs. It can be used to find high interest articles. The students themselves can select the topic and article. It can be used to practice reading about their home country/culture. They might like that. It can be used to build knowledge about American culture. It can be used to build background knowledge of topics being taught in their classes. I would adjust the reading level to match the student. I would monitor their comprehension with the questions, give feedback and intervene to build on noted areas of weakness. We can reread articles together to practice reading fluency. NEWSELA is a home run for ELLs!
