Minor characters in this story have an important role in Wuthering Heights. They helped to create tension between certain characters in the story. There are a few minor characters that do not want Heathcliff and Catherine to end up together. Mrs. Linton has a strong opinion about Heathcliff and Catherine being in love and will do anything she can to stop it. She is the mother of Edgar and Isabella. She despises Heathcliff and does not want him anywhere near her family. She wants Edgar and Catherine to end up together so she decides to help Catherine. She is apart of the upper class and wants Catherine to obtain her social graces. Therefore she transforms Catherine from a rough, wild child to a proper young lady. A quote that represents her as a person is “Mrs. Linton paid us several visits, to be sure, and set things to rights, and scolded and ordered us all” (90). This quote shows how Mrs. Linton likes things her way and is very controlling. In conclusion, although Mrs. Linton is a minor character she had a major impact on both Heathcliff and Catherine’s futures.
