Chapter 8
-Students should be centered in their own problem solving.
Chapter 9
-Motivating students starts with building relationships with their teachers so they have something to work for.
Chapter 10
-It's important to empathize with challenging parents to best communicate with them so they may also improve on how they interact with and treat their child.

We thought that the idea to write down everything a challenging parent would be saying to you mostly likely wouldn't go very well. We feel it's really likely the parent would be offended, or the parent may walk away from the conversation without taking anything significant or helpful away, or the teacher may just also not catch everything.

We felt that it makes a lot of sense to give students their space and independence, especially if they are apathetic or unmotivated. When we give them the space to choose their own learning and how they spend their time, they feel more respected and supported. This can also promote their creativity since their autonomy and decision making is encouraged.

Ch. 8 - Guided lessons because it allows students to think for themselves and problem solve when needed
Ch. 9 - Love and Logic Mantra, hoping students will make mistakes when the stakes are low so they can learn to not make those mistakes when the stakes are high.
Ch. 10 - Teachers are constantly being placed in hard decisions and forced to make tough choices for the benefit of the students, even when the parents don't agree with it

One strategy that we felt would not be helpful was when the teacher confronted a student when he asked why he has to do math because he won't ever use it later on. Then the teacher asks what he wants to do in life, he says a football star, then the teacher says that's nice, but will you do the homework for me, thanks. We do not feel this would be an effective strategy.

The guided lessons strategies are very productive and useful. The strategy where the students would pick a partner and go around the room speaking in French and asking each other to name them.

Chapter 8: students should be provided with the tools to solve their own problems, instead of being given all the answers.
Chapter 9: Its important to learn about your students and what situations they come from so you can help them meet there basic needs in order to become a more motivated students.
Chapter 10: When talking to difficult parents there is a balance between listening and talking. Its important for the teacher to listen to what the parent has to say, while also politely standing up for themselves.

Schools are not always set up to aid teachers in helping kids learn problem solving skills. Schools don't always give students and teachers enough time to adjust for any learning curve.

Teachers are not in charge of being a therapist for their students. If there are bigger, underlying issues that the student is facing the teacher can help them get the tools they need to address those issues.
