After 4 years, 3 months and 14 days of war - which caused 1.7 billion casualties to the Germany army and left 4.2 million wounded - Germany was subjected to accept the blame for starting WW1 (clause 231), losing 10% of their land, 12.5% of their population, Germany's colonies, and reduction of military power. To add salt to the wound, the country had to pay reparation which costs £6,600 million and they were not even allowed to join the League of Nations. Needless to say, the Germans were furious.

Financial impact:
-Germany lost their richest farming land - West Prussia.
-Germany lost its sources of raw material and income - their colonies.
-Germany lost industrial strength.
-Germany had to build up its own economy while paying for the reparations, being unable to unite with Austria made situations worse.
-Hyper-inflation took place in 1923, $1 was equivalent to 4.2 billion German marks.

Political impact:
-Many Germans did not trust and support the Weimar Republic since they signed the Treaty of Versailles.
-There was no restoration of monarchy since the Dutch government did not hand over Kaiser.
-Germany became politically isolated because allies distrusted Germany.
-Many Germans believed that the terms of Treaty of Versailles would be less harsh without Kaiser and the Imperial government.

Why did victors not get anything they wanted Noor Hassan 10 G4 In 1919 the big three met at the palace of Versailles so they can decide how to deal with Germany . They found it hard to agree with each other because they had different aims about the treatment of Germany . Because George Clemenceau wanted a harsh peace On Germany, and Woodrow Wilson wanted a lenient peace ,and Lloyd George did not want a harsh peace .France 🇫🇷 1. George Clemenceau thought that The treaty was not harsh because he wanted revenge for the damage Germany had done.2. He also borrowed a lot of money for the war and got a huge loan and it got worse because they also had to pay for all the damage that had been done so they wanted Germany 200 billion in reparations 3. France was not sure that the treaty of Versailles guaranteed its security so Rhineland because a demilitarized zone and that no army were allowed in there . USA 🇺🇸 1. USA did not suffer economically but it had been an economic catastrophe for Britain and France. 2. Wilson was weakened by the Lack of support because the American congress did not approve the treaty 3. And Wilson wanted to use his 14 points. Because He wanted these to be the basis for peace. But At the Versailles Conference he was forced to compromise because the other leaders were less idealistic. Britain 🇬🇧 1. Lloyd George was concerned about the security of France eastern frontier because if that were to be crossed by hostile troops it would only be a matter of time before before Britain was directly threatened . 2. Britain had sustained heavy casualties during the war. 3. Lloyd George was afraid that the weakening of Germany might encourage Germany to turn to Communism.
