She is very nervous about this change because at her old school she wasn't invited to many things and didn't have many friends. A week before her first day at her new school she goes to Bed Bath and Beyond to buy a new comforter and she meets one of the workers there, Jamie, and develops a crush on her. Once she finally starts school she realizes that Jamie goes to her school. Eventually she starts to hang out with Jamie but she is worried about Jamie's friends because they don't seem to really like her that much. Sana is forced to bounce back and forth between her group of friends and Jamie's group of friends and this stresses her out. Sana decides to join cross country in order to spend more time with Jamie and she also invites Jamie over to her house to "do homework". At one of the school dances Sana goes out to her friends' car to put her coat in it so doesn't lose it, but Jamie ends up following her outside. They have a conversation like usual but then Jamie leans in an they start kissing, Sana was ecstatic that this had finally happened. After the dance they go to a karaoke club with some other friends to drink and have fun. But while they are there Sana sees her dad there with another woman, this clarifies Sana's suspicion of her dad cheating because she had seen these texts on her dads phone from a unsaved number with kissy faces and hearts. Sana tries to confront her mom but her mom doesn't seem to care that much and just blows it off. Now Sana's mom likes to have a "normal life" and doesn't believe in divorce or anything because it would disappoint her family and make them look bad. Because of this Sana is scared to tell her mother about her and Jamie and is scared to come out as gay. But it goes a lot smoother than she thought it would, and everything is nice and smooth for a while after that. But eventually Sana gets sick of her dad cheating on her mom and once she finds out he gave this mystery woman the same earring he had given her as a kid she freaks out and confronts him about it. He comes clean to Sana about his affair and she finds out her mom knew about it all along and Sana is confused as to why she would put up with it for so long. At the end of the story Sana's dad brings his girlfriend home to meet Sana and try to make things as normal for her as they can be, her mom and her dad's girlfriend even cook dinner together. She also finds evidence that leads her to believe that her dad is having an affair. She is extremely worried about telling her mom the truth about her love life and about her dads affair but she later realizes that her mom reacts a lot better than she expected.

Jamie- The friend and later on girlfriend of Sana. They meet at Bed Bath and Beyond where she works and become friends once schools starts. They hang out at Sana's house after cross country very often and they hang out alot. They go to a school dance together and that is where they admit their love for each other and start their relationship.

Caleb- He sits behind Sana in one of their classes and they also become friends. He is kind of an outcast at school because everyone sees him as a goth kid. He develops a crush on Sana and also helps her to spy on her dad when she suspects that he is cheating. Being present day has a big impact on the story because in the beginning of the story Sana is complaining because she doesn't have a smartphone like her friends do. I actually really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I liked reading about the issues Sana faced and how she handled them.
