The key personalities of this book are James and Persecuted Christians. James wrote this book to Jewish believers to encourage them to endure and live bold Christian lives. James is a book about practical Christian living that reflects a genuine faith that transforms lives. In many ways, it is similar to the OT book of Proverbs.

This part of james is near the ending and talks about patience and prayer. We should be patience as a man does when he sows plants and waits for them to grow through all the seasons. We should also pray no matter what happens it says in James 5:13-14, "Are you any of you in trouble? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you ill? You should send for church elders, who will pray for them and rub olive oil on them in the name of the lord." Notice how all these responses are to do with God, This tells us no matter what situation we end up in we should turn to God, have patience and hope he answers us. Amen

We have no control over time. All we have is now. We can't be guaranteed that we will see tomorrow. We can't plan our activities like we know that we will see tomorrow. We don't know what the future holds, even in the next few moments anything could happen that could change our lives drastically. James tells us that doing this is boasting and it is evil. We are just mortal beings compared to the supremacy of God. As it says it in in verse 14'you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes'. We can't say things without adding 'If it is the Lord's will' 'By the grace of God' as we are told that this is arrogant boasting. In James Chapter 4, the apostle of Christ wrote about the origins of war, lust, and life’s uncertainties. He pondered why people lust and fight over things and still are unable to have them. He claimed that the reason that the people he was writing to did not have what they wanted was because they either did not ask for it or they asked for the wrong thing to simply satisfy their own lust. 

He wants his readers to mature in their faith in Christ by living what they say they believe. He condemns various sins, including pride, hypocrisy, favouritism, and slander. He encourages and implores believers to humbly live by godly, rather than worldly wisdom and to pray in all situations.
