"And in spite of myself, a prayer formed inside me, a prayer to this God in whom I no longer believed" (Page 89)
It is possible that Eliezer is unsure of whether his faith is forever lost or just broken. He likely says this prayer because some part of him still believes in God. His father has been a key reason on why he is so motivated to survive and if there is chance that God could help them remain alive, I think Eliezer would take it, like he did in this situation.

And something in me rebelled against that death.” (Page 91)
Eliezer knows he has to stay alive for himself and most importantly his father. I think he knew that if he were to fall asleep, his father would too and that idea alone would not allow Eliezer to rest peacefully. The fact that he has made it this far could also be a motivating factor. Alongside himself and his father all Jews have gone through so much, and surviving would be a freeing moment for his race.

All of the Jews began their journey to a new camp, it was very cold and never stopped snowing. They were walking but that quickly turned into running. The SS had permission to shoot anyone who was not able to keep up with the rest. Many fell behind and struggled greatly. Elie was having some trouble continuing to run, but he never gave up. His foot was aching, but soon enough was numb. Everyone was tired, thirsty and hungry; at this point they have run 20km since Buna. They arrived at an abandoned village where they had a rest. Many men were trampled trying to get into a building. Corpses were laying all around, but no one payed attention and no one asked for help. Ellie’s father was struggling. Elie began to pray even after questioning his faith many times. They began to march again not soon later. They were slower this time. The SS were being encouraging for once, they reassured the Jews that the walking was almost over. This helped the Jews push through. They arrived at camp Glewitz, everyone was quickly put into barracks. The living were being crushed by the weight of corpses, Elie was struggling to breathe and thought this would be his death. He did however find Juliek, a friend that he made while working in Buna. They remained in Gleiwitz for three days. They had no food, water and were forced to stay in their barracks. On the third day at dawn they were leaving again. Before leaving they had a selection, Elie’s father got put to the left; deemed unfit to continue. Elie made a scene over this and many Jews including his father snuck over to the right side. They continued marching and received a ration of bread, they ate the snow to quench their thirst. They got on a train 100 people per car.

He was looking for his son that he had lost while they were traveling. Elie said that he thought to himself that his son had left him and did not want his father to be a burden to him. as the rabbi is realizing this, he becomes sad and leaves still looking for his son. The choice of words he used illustrates the rabbi's sadness and how he felt no purpose but to protect his son.

The prisoners started their trek and were forced to run. The SS had the authority to kill anyone who was unable to keep up with the rest. One of Elie's friends manages to get a cramp and he stopped running, but he ended up getting run over by the prisoners behind him. The prisoners are finally allowed to rest. Eliezer falls asleep, but is then abruptly woken by his father, who claims that it is dangerous to sleep in snow. Elie and his father worked hard to stay awake and keep each other awake. Rabbi Eliahu asks around about his son--he could not find him. Elie remembers that the Rabbi's son ditched him, when he saw that he was falling behind. Eliezer wonders how someone can be so cruel to their father, and he prays that he never becomes like that. After many more hours of continuous marching, the prisoners finally reach Gleiwitz. There were so many people in such a small barrack that the prisoners were stacked on each other to sleep. Elie himself is unable to breath and he fights for air. They stay at this camp for 3 days--without food or water. On the third day, the prisoners are split into 2 groups. Elie was selected to go to the right, and his father to the left. However, some confusion occurred, and Elie managed to go to the left side and bring his father back over to the right. The prisoners on the right side left camp and once again began marching. They stop, and wait for the train. Once the train comes, they are all pushed inside.

"These words of encouragement, even coming as they did from the mouths of our assassins, were of great help." Pg. 92
This is how you know that Eliezer has been through hell. When words of encouragement are SS officers saying that another concentration camp is near, in this case Gleiwitz. He sees it as hope, and wishes to arrive at the camp quickly.

Everyone was marching in the cold. As everyone began to get more tired, lots of people kept on falling and getting shot if they couldn't keep up. A boy who was running beside Eliezer tried running but suddenly got a stomach ache which wouldn't let him him and he had to stop. Eventually, hours later they all got to stop after surpassing 20 kilometres. They all reached an abandoned village. It was hard to fall asleep. Eliezer's father had gone through a huge change, he became more weak and old. While staying under the shed, an old man comes in asking about his son which he got separated from while running. Eliezer replies that he did not see him but when he leaves, Eliezer remembers that he did see his son because he was the one running beside him. However, the son did see his father falling behind but let him drift away to release himself from the burden, for which the father thought his son did not notice him falling behind. Eliezer becomes worried and prays that he does not do the same.
.
When night came again, they started marching again. Everyone was tried including the guards. A few hours later they reached their new location, Gleiwitz. Once they got there, everyone started shoving each other and squishing people beneath them. Someone was on top of Eliezer who was on top of a boy he met who loved playing his violin. Even though Elizer tried getting off of the boy, he himself couldn't move because of him also being crushed by the others. He tried gasping for air which he could not get through his mouth or nose at all. Eventually he made his way out and was able to breathe again, however, the boy who loved his violin did not survive by the next day.

They all stayed with hunger and thirst for three days when it was announced that it will be selection day. Due to his father's weak and old state, he was sent to the left when Eliezer ran after his father not being able to be stopped by the guards which caused confusion during the selection. This resulted in Eliezer and his father going to the right with the others who were also able to by switching the sides.

After marching for half an hour, they all waited for a train which would pick them up. They all got their portions of bread, and since no one was allowed to bend down, they all used snow fallen on the shoulders of the person beside them to eat instead which was a way to have water thought of by another inmate.

After waiting for a very long time, they all finally got aboard the train ready to leave with hundreds of passengers in each car because of the amount of weight they had lost.
