GRA: Pax by Mr Matthew Lowe

Discuss the meaning of the phrase that appears before the story begins: “Just because it isn’t happening here doesn’t mean it isn’t happening” (p. 10). What does that phrase mean to you? Why do you think the author did not name a specific place or area as the setting of the book?

I think the author did not name the specific place or area as the setting of the book because when Mr Lowe reads Pax I feel like it is a mystery, so if the author gives away the setting it sort of isn't mysterious anymore.

The author did not name a specific place or area as the setting of the book because even though it is set in a purely fictitious world some people may think that stuff like this does not happen there.

I think that the saying just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening means that, when you are safe and happy it doesn't mean that everybody is safe and happy. In relation to the story Peter does not know about the damaging war that is going on where Pax is and what Pax is going through. He does not know how dangerous Pax's situation is, whilst he is safe and is being cared for by Vola. Peter thinks that Pax is at risk of death because he has very inexperienced survival skills but when you stack the war on top Pax really is unlikely to survive.

I think that the author did not mention where the story is set because the story is more enjoyable and you feel more emotion if you visualise a place for the story to be set, if you just know where the story is taking place it is not as realistic. I also think that the author has not mentioned where the story is set because the reader might think that some of the things written in the story do not happen where the author has set the story.

This also can mean that a country is having a civil war like for instance Korea it ended North and South Korea. It seems the phrase is saying that to me is that a young kid is just playing around with his toys in Australia and at Syria there is a war about Christianity and people are dying everyday and there is a massive hunger in the land and he has plenty of food in Australia So that's what it means to me.

2.The author didn't state the area because if someone read were it was based, they would protest about it because probably there was no civil war or war there and why couldn't she base in another place.
