Even though some consider the prohibition of voting as part of one's punishment for committing criminal acts, the right to vote is a constitutional right and the acts debated on affect the incarcerated as well. The path that it took to insure suffrage for all was a long and treacherous one. We should not diminish the work others did to obtain this right by taking it away. Also, not everyone is going to take the chance to act on their voting rights. The incarcerated who do vote, vote for the reason of change. The changes and laws implemented by these votes also affect the imprisoned as they are citizens of the United States and deserve the right to have a say in how they are governed and by whom.

Prisoners should be allowed to vote. The reason for this is because they need every vote, every vote counts, especially if you're in jail. They also have a right to voice their opinion on who they want to be president, governor etc. Just because someone's in jail doesn't mean that they can't do things that other people do. It's also not fair to take away someones vote because of what they did to get to jail.

The right to vote is a fundamental human right, and prisoners should not be denied this right. Allowing inmates to vote not only preserves their dignity and humanity, but also promotes civic engagement, reduces reoffending, and ensures that everyone's voice is heard in a democratic society.First, denying prisoners the right to vote goes against the core principles of democracy, which is founded on the notion that every citizen has the right to participate in the political process. Second, prisoners who are allowed to vote are more likely to feel a sense of connection to society, which can help reduce recidivism rates. Third, denying prisoners the right to vote continues social exclusion and worsens existing inequalities.

Prisoners should not receive the right to vote while their sentence is being fulfilled.. Those who are incarcerated are closed off from the public. They are not updated on current events. Also, the right to vote should be taken away as a punishment. They committed a crime and should receive a valid punishment for it. Moreover, the majority of civilians agree that they should not be able to vote. If you look at any demographic the majority voting for prisoner rights only applies in certain situations. Prisoners should not be allowed to vote during their sentence.

Despite the thought of punishing felons by alienating them from society is deemed the right thing to do by some, Prisoners should be able to vote because it is a constitutional right that everyone is allowed to vote, it would hurt no one to let prisoners vote, and because some laws that officials make are for prisons. Prisoners are also on American soil just as any other person, and are not exempt from changes in the law from government officials. Even some laws directly target prisoners and prisons, as last week the article we read was about laws and bills that were created to shut prisons down and move prisoners around. Prisoners who are directly affected by lawmakers and government officials like this should be able to vote in order to ensure that they are getting what they think is best for them when it comes to laws about prisons and prisoners, as they should not be excluded from this democracy. It would destroy the whole point of democracy in this country if we truly did not let everyone vote, and only make exceptions to exclude people that others deem "unworthy" of voting and democracy. All of this should be instated if the person chooses to vote or not.

The rights of prisoners in america is a very controversial topic. when it comes to prisoners voting rights there are many things that are needed to be taken into consideration, like the crime that was committed, how long the persons sentence is, how many times have they committed crimes. Certain factors like these are important because they should be determining if a prisoners is allowed to vote or not. its evident that the majority of society is against prisoners being allowed the right to vote; however, prisoners should be allowed to vote on certain things under certain circumstances. the right to vote is a constitutional rights, by not allowing prisoners that right it exempts them from their rights, it also contributes to the inequalities we see today in society.

They should not be able to influence how people on the outside live and not have the changes happen to them. They should not have the right to vote because they are cut off from the world, they do not receive what they are voting for while those on the outside do, and they should not be able to vote as a justified punishment for committing a crime.

Although it may seem like a reward, prisoners should be allowed to vote in the US. It is stated on the constitution that rightfully speaking, every single US citizen is allowed to vote, imprisoned or not. A vote is a vote, and truthfully, it doesn't matter who is voting, if they're a human with rights, let them vote. In the case of a presidential election, each president most likely stands for something different than the other, which means each has a different perspective on prisoners. If prisoners vote, they can help decide what they think is best for themselves as a prisoner, too. Lastly, are we (United States) even keeping our word anymore if we don't let prisoners vote? The terms "Equal rights" and "Freedom" just wouldn't apply anymore, which gives the government something to think about.

I think it depends on what they were imprisoned for, and how serious the situation was. For example if it was very serious then they shouldn't be given the right to vote. I feel it also depends on the behavior like if the inmate is doing a lot better from how they were in the beginning. If they have changed to a better person then they should be given that right to vote.

If you are in the prison system for a long period of time I don't see how you could be super aware of the politics that are happening in the outside world. I also think that prisoners that are not in the right state of mind should not be able to vote. I could see why the public would want to remove this right from all prisoners as a punishment for their crimes but the brutality of prison is already enough of a punishment on its own, we should not take away their rights completely because they are human no matter what the situation is, especially for non-harmful crimes.

It's expected that all US citizens have this right, but these inmates have abused their privileges by committing the crimes that got them into jail in the first place. But not all prisoners commit crimes that deserve to have their right to vote taken away. Many still have plenty of thoughts and opinions on how our country should run and they deserve to be able to give their input. There are things that need to be considered when granting a prisoner the right to vote, and I do believe that there should be a process of analyzing if one inmate should have the right to vote or not. The circumstances of their sentence should be considered, along with their previous encounters with committing crimes or anything along those lines.

I agree with the groups of people who believe that certain prisoners should have the right to vote. Voting in the U.S. is a constitutional right that applies to everyone including inmates but in some cases it should be limited. There are people who abuse the system and would take advantage of this new idea. Along with this, many incarcerated people have been sentenced to jail for nonviolent crimes or crimes that do not require their natural human rights to be stripped from them. To continue on those specific prisoners would have the opportunity to vote for their ideals and have a chance at being heard by the government and civilization. Lastly, the continuation of these outdated laws would only impact how we as a country handle situations, it is a given in recent years that laws need to be strengthened and updated to the modern world, including important topics such as this.

I think that prisoners shouldn't be allowed to vote. First of all, prisoners are doing their time because they committed some sort of crime. They broke the laws that the country and government rests upon. Secondly, prisoners are isolated from society, but could still be able to affect it by being able to vote. Lastly, being able to vote will make prison seem less punishing, which (arguably) contradicts the purpose of doing time in prison.

Whether or not a prisoner gets the right to vote should be determined by a number of variables, including the severity of the crime they committed, the length of their sentence, and their overall character, including whether or not they regret committing the crime. Prisoners convicted of small offenses should not have their constitutional right to vote revoked, whereas those convicted of a more serious felony should. Those with shorter jail sentences and low-level crimes should be permitted to vote because they will be released in a few months or years and should still have a voice and input on political issues. Before jails allow convicts to vote, prisons should find out if they truly regret committing the crime and will not repeat it. Those who have repeatedly committed several felonies should have their voting privileges revoked since they do not appear to care about or value the law.

When it comes to giving prisoners rights once they are let out of jail has become a debatable argument considering there are many factors that have to be consider in order for a prison mate to join as a stable member of society. They were put in jail for reason so for them to just have their regular rights given as if nothing happened would not be fair to those who have to get through certain requirements in order to get basic rights such as voting. The same argument again, they were put in jail for a reason so having their opinion on how something should run should not be counted because of their given record. Finally, having prisoners vote would allow for the criminal Justice system to rewrite itself considering the given prisoner can now just go ahead and do normal societal things as if nothing happened.

I believe that some prisoners should have the right to vote while some should not. While voting is a right that every US citizen should have, I believe that if a prisoner has taken a life away from another person intentionally, they lose their right to vote. A majority of criminals however are convicted of nonviolent crimes, which are the criminals I believe should have the right to vote since they have not committed bad enough crimes which warrant taking their right to vote away.

I believe that the right to vote should depend on the severity of the crime that the prisoner committed. Voting is a big part of the pride of American citizens, and being able to vote for what happens for yourself is what makes America different from other countries. While many people are incarcerated, i don't believe that all of them shouldn't have a say in what people's tax dollars go towards, especially if that money is going towards the better of prisons.

I believe that prisoners should not be able to vote what so ever. I don't think they should because they obviously don't make good decisions for themselves so i think it would hurt the country if you let them contribute. That goes into them not understanding what's going on and what will happen if they vote for whatever they're voting for. Also, they would be able to vote for benefits towards them. Which can play a big role in where money for the country is going. Money and opportunity shouldn't be going to the people that are doing bad things and making bad decisions.

I feel that the right to vote is something that needs to be earned or proven that you deserve to have your voice be heard. I think it would depend from inmate to inmate, obviously a murderer should never have the authority to sign a single ballot but maybe someone on a minor crime such as possession of a drug like marijuana shouldn't be held to the same extent.
