         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students often learn or hear about architecture in science, history, or even math, but very rarely do they get to work hands on with the architectural principles they learn. Here, students are attempting to construct mosques that they learned about in a history lesson. By getting hands on with architecture these students get to experience the difficulty and perseverance required to build stable structures. </div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Art is a simple but meaningful tool of expression that allows students to display and create what they truly believe. Here, students are using the tool of artistic expression as a means to convey their belief that science is an intellectually driven pursuit, not one based on appearance. By incorporating art into science lessons students can learn that science is not the rigid subject of old, but rather a multifaceted area of curiosity and creation.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Science in the 21st Century class room is fast becoming a hands on subject that encourages students to approach every situation with goals of inquiry, evidence gathering, hypothesizing, and proving. With this immersive approach, students are beginning to understand that these principles can be applied to situations in other subjects as well as the world outside of the classroom.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students in the 21st century have the unique position of being immersed with technology. To many, this means fluency with computer technology, but technology is the acquisition and use of new techniques as well. Shortly into the school year many students began to feel burned out after using technology on a daily basis, which lead me to the practice of technology in moderation. As a result, students have begun to practice their collaboration and communication on digital platforms such as Google Docs and even Padlets.<br> </div>]]></description>

         <title>READING AND WRITING</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>English isn't just a subject that teaches reading, grammar, and writing skills. Using our online Amplify curriculum we are now beginning a unit on reading and analyzing scientific texts, starting with the shocking study of Phineas Gage and eventually exploring other scientific cases including studies of the adolescent mind. As students learn and grow in the 21st century, the skill of reading, understanding, and synthesizing scientific texts is more important now than ever. </div>]]></description>

Currently, I am using resources such as The Mathematics of Cartography (below) to help teach my students how to navigate maps and globes, a skill we use quite often in our history lessons.  <br><br><br></div>]]></description>
