It was a part of the collection 'Irere' which translates to 'transformation' in Amazonian. The purpose of the collection, which followed a shipwrecked theme, was to signify the beginning of a new era for Mcqueen - the oyster dress played an important role in this as it was made to represent the pearl & good fortune that would come for the designer. It's interesting how McQueen was able to arrange sand-coloured fabrics in a way which replicated the texture of a deconstructing oyster 'caught up in violent waves'. The shoe features a biomorphic spine which snakes around the heel & wraps around the sole, combining with the front platform of the shoe which is shaped to look like either an alien's mouth or the insides of its rib cage. I like how McQueen was able to combine fashion with fantasy to create a unique design concept which appears gruesome & dark but still somehow remains feminine. He began doing this from the age of 7 since the neighbourhood he lived in was often used to dump waste which inspired him to 'give waste a second chance'. He would walk the streets & collect pieces of litter along the way which he would then bring home & challenge himself to create beauty from the unwanted objects. His work recycles beads, tyres, plastic flowers & hardware into vessel forms & inspires people to look at things with a fresh eye. Although these aren't necessarily fashion outcomes we could take inspiration from the way he weaves unconventional items together to help us combine our themes - could think about using organic materials like flowers & sticks & combining them with mechanical parts. Once a person has passed, they place their body on the mountains (closer to the sky to make their passage to paradise easier), exposed to the elements to be eaten by animals & birds, mostly vultures, as a way to give back to the environment. They believe that by doing this, they relieve the dead of sin. It's a very organic process of mourning which combines 2 of our themes very well. 
IDEAS:
- Look into the McQueen collection where he made birds look like they were flying away with the models' hair & clothes (could relate it to how the vultures fly away with parts of the body)
- Research into wildlife in Tibet, take inspiration from the nature around the burian sites for patterns & prints. Could even look at recreating some of the plants & animals out of our collected materials, bridging mechanic with organic by using mechanic materials to produce organic-looking outcomes
