Produced in 1943 it was different from any other show and was huge success. It was the first musical that featured a character performing a solo or soliloquy. Most shows before Oklahoma! highlighted a New York lifestyle, but Oklahoma! had a completely different setting that intrigued audiences. This show also featured the first death ever seen on stage, and popularized the Dream Ballet.
