I actually just took an online course about Skype and how amazing it is with all of its features! I am most excited about the online field trips. It is a cost efficient(since it is free), flexible, useful and fun for the students! I teach Kindergarten and I think they would get really excited about seeing and meeting people, places and even animals from around the world. I teach at a school where many of the students usually do not have opportunities to visit
and experience places outside of home and school. Showing them the world via Skype would bring life to the things that we read and learn about in class! I'm hoping that I can find field trips relating to places like Egypt that we are currently studying, but I'm sure that there are many field trips that my students will enjoy!

As a Spanish teacher I've been trying to get more interactions between my students and actual Spanish speakers. Through some family and friend connections and also with a pen pal website I think I will be able to se up some Skype appointments for my students!
-Patrick B.]]> 2017-01-30 19:40:24 UTC https://padlet.com/emailkristenlum/yh7oiaeh1428/wish/150367333 dnakasone https://padlet.com/emailkristenlum/yh7oiaeh1428/wish/151018554 I had some difficulty with this one.  I understand what Skype is and the possibilities it brings to the classroom, however, technology wise, I feel a bit challenged.  I have never Skyped with someone so I guess my first step would be to Skype with a friend or family member and figure that part out.  Then I might feel  a little more confident trying some of the suggestions like online field trips, connecting with other classrooms, etc. 

One a side note, while exploring Jed Dearybury's website, I came across a lesson I am planning to try called "I wish my teacher knew".  It gives our students an opportunity to share as much as they want about themselves that teachers may never ask.  The more we understand our students, they better teachers we can be to them.  There were numerous videos out there of teachers asking the students to complete the sentence and it is surprising what students end up sharing.  ]]> 2017-02-02 00:26:13 UTC https://padlet.com/emailkristenlum/yh7oiaeh1428/wish/151018554 I like the idea of a virtual field trip. Like Charmaine said about her students not having the opportunity to travel or explore out of school and home, I think this would be a great adventure for my students. I am also interested in the Mystery Skype games.
