Elie Wiesel says that he does not know or does not remember why he wrote the book night. He said that it could have been so he would not go mad or go mad so to understand what madness really is or to prevent history from repeating itself. He just can't remember or just never had a specific reason to write the book. The reason why his book is more appreciated in recent centuries more than it was when it was written is because there have been recent discovered documents that say that before the Nazi started gaining power they had a goal to make a society where there were no room for any Jews or anyone that did look, act, or speak like them. By the end of the Holocaust they decided their new goal would be to leave the world in ruins and to seem like Jews never existed.

After a decade of Wiesel not talking about his experience about being a holocaust survivor he decided to finally address it. He did this by spending two whole years by writing and editing which was the product of the book “Night”. The reason behind why he wanted to illustrate his story is because of that he wanted to metaphorically kill the people that made the horrible and horrifying war tragedies become real by expressing by writing his feeling out. The reason many people did not care for it at the time is because most people thought it was too graphic for kids and not necessary for their education along with them not knowing if all of the information the the book gave was all nonfiction.

Wiesel didn't talk about his experiences from being a Jew in WWII because he underwent some of the worst things, and from that he didn't wanna bring it up or talk about it at all because it would bring back terrible memories or trauma. During 1956 people didn't care about it as much because people didn't understand the past and what happened during those times. And many parents thought it was too gruesome or graphic for their kids to read at the time, and since it was so graphic people didn't think the experiences were real. It's now more appreciated because we have way more information, more proof, and more survivors speaking about their experiences. Now people will look back at this dark time and think of the war, the people who died, the people who lived, and the people who caused this to happen.

Elie Wiesel was also questioning why he was one of the ones who got the chance to survive and others couldn’t. He said he didn’t know what he wanted to achieve by writing the novel but mentioned that it could maybe stop history from repeating itself, and help others understand the difficulties of being a part of the war.

I think this novel is more appreciated now because most people are interested in the history and learning what happened during the time of the war.

Elie Wiesel at first was unsure about the novel. One of the reasons for this was because it brought up painful memories that were hard for him to express and describe. Or those specific memories were very hard to talk about. Another reason he was unsure about the book is that basically all the other authors at the time didn't want to write about the Holocaust. But Elie Wiesel wanted for people to know or at least acknowledge the Holocaust. Because so many people at the time of the books publishing either weren't aware that it was horrible or they didn't care as much as people today do.

I think the reason that this novel is appreciated now more then it was is because more and more people have come forward with their stories and memories of the Holocaust and how terrible it was. Also WWII and the Holocaust have been kind of woven into the media. More Holocaust survivors like Elie Wiesel have written autobiographies about their experiences. There eve have been movies made about it too. People have come to realize that it was horrible event in history and they now respect and honor people who have fought, been killed, or survived the Holocaust.

Wiesel wrote the novel because he wanted to share his personal experiences of surviving the holocaust. He wanted to show the struggles he had to go through during those times. He was very mad at what had happened to him and others when he was younger. He saw things as a kid that we never wish to see in our life. He thinks that these types of activities the nazis did should be known about and not taken lightly. People should take them seriously and never repeat them in history. It is more appreciated in recent centuries because back in 1956, people didn't want to talk about horribly bad things like this that took place only around 11 years back. Nowadays, it is taught in almost every school, and there are also a ton of books, novels, movies, shows, etc about the Holocaust. Back then, only a couple of books and places taught about the holocaust. Wiesel is an example of someone who should be looked upon with great respect and integrity.

Elie Wiesel wrote this novel to share his experience during the Holocaust and how he survived it. He wrote the novel to share the Holocaust experience with other people and show how badly the Jewish people were treated. He shares his sorrowful and painful memories so that the Holocaust does not get repeated again because it wiped out most of the Jewish people themselves and there community and lifestyles. Back then they didn't want to talk about something so horrible that was just a few years back. And most people were still recovering from the war. It took lots of time for lots of people to fully realize that the Holocaust was a historical event that changed the world today. If the holocaust wasn't a thing there would be so many more Jewish community's and country's. After the Holocaust discrimination was more seen and frowned upon. Overall, It took so long for people to recognize the Holocaust tragedies because they didn't want to talk about something so horrible that only happened a few years back.

But he wrote it to get out his true feelings and experiences about the holocaust, so he wouldn't go mad or maybe he would. He had other reasons like not wanting history to repeat itself, or what it was really like to be in the holocaust. But he felt very strongly that there were more deserving people who should have lived. But without this book he would not have the same life or no life at all because of the things he witnessed and believing that the holocaust should never be forgotten so it never happens again.

This novel is more appreciated now because no one would know the true horrors of what really was happening all across Europe. But it wasn't as much during the time it was published because many still had the horror's still fresh in their mind and wanted to get past it.

Wiesel “was more afraid of having said too much than too little.” His original message was that he felt a moral obligation to tell his story and what had happened. Some French editors cut even more than he had originally intended but he was ok with this decision because he only cared about getting his message across. For example, one of the passages that was cut was about the death of his father, which he thought was too personal. This is an important memory, but Wiesel really wanted to focus on what had happened in the concentration camp for everyone as opposed to his personal experiences there. In addition there's another passage that was cut from the Yiddish version where he discusses concepts like faith, trust, and illusion. It is important to think these things through but it is not completely on topic. His main goal was to honor the people who perished and help prevent this from happening to people in the future.

Francis Mauriac was a French novelist and critic who studied English and literature and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He was born on October 11, 1885. He was also a member of the Académie française and wrote many novels. The Académie française was a prestigious council of people who learned and made the French language, proving that he was a very high person. The Académie only has 40 members. He died on the first of September 1970, bringing his total life to 84 years. During those 84 years, a lot happened. The great depression, the First World War, the Second World War, and the Vietnam War. Francois was the one who persuaded Wiesel to write the book. He told Wiesel that he should put the word out there to tell people about the horrors of the Holocaust.

In the Preface of "Night," Elie Wiesel references passages that were ultimately removed from the final version of the novel, primarily because they were deemed too overwhelming or disturbing for readers. These omitted sections often contained graphic depictions of suffering and trauma that Wiesel felt might hinder the reader's ability to engage with the broader themes of his narrative. The decision to cut these passages reflects Wiesel's intention to convey the horrors of the Holocaust while still allowing the audience a chance to absorb the profound emotional and spiritual messages underlying his experiences. By focusing on the core narrative, Wiesel aimed to create a powerful testimony that emphasized resilience, faith, and the importance of memory, rather than solely fixating on despair. Ultimately, the cuts were made to ensure that the essential message of hope and humanity resonated with readers, preserving the novel’s impactful essence without compromising its emotional weight.
