Aimee

Who else do you want to talk to?
- GP - with consent from Penny to have information about current mental health diagnosis and treatment. As Penny is feeling an overwhelming feeling of guilt and cannot sleep at night I would refer her to the GP to discuss options.
- Mental health team referral due to Penny feeling an overwhelming feeling of guilt, unable to sleep at night, has worries about turning into her mother which suggests that she may have unresolved issues from her childhood which have resurfaced now she is a parent herself. She has signs of OCD which if not addressed may impact on Luke's development. Gerald refers to a past situation which nearly broke her in regards to cleanliness, liasing with mental health services we can obtain previous diagnosis and treatment
- I would want the MDT to work together so GP/M/H services, HV. It may be appropriate to get a handover from the MDT in Penny's old area so the new MDT are better informed.
- If the condition escalated safe guarding Luke's development may need to be considered with a social worker to support the family

What areas of knowledge do you need a greater breadth and depth for?
- What the current management is for women who have had previous self harm and panic attacks
- How OCD is diagnosed? How it is treated? The different severity of OCD and how this can affect the baby and family life? What can trigger OCD? What M/H conditions are closely linked to OCD. How each professional in the perinatal period can support women with OCD. Is there a family link between growing up with a parent who has OCD and developing it yourself.
- New mother guilt and to explore current stressors for new time mothers - what coping mechanisms can women learn to support them to not feel guilty throughout motherhood
Thanks Aimee, your points are appropriate and the learning objectives for yourself will be very useful in practice.
Cath
