Ochre is a family of earth pigments that receive their colour primarily from different iron oxides, all encompassing a range of reds, yellows, browns, purples, and blacks (Clearwell Caves, no date).

Natural ochre pigments produce vibrant yet subtle colour and have a variety of uses: in artwork they combine well with oils or water as a paint, in décor they blend naturally with wood, stone, brick, and plaster, and in pottery they can be used as a decorative glaze (Clearwell Caves, no date).

Ochre is recognised as one of the most light-fast and permanent pigments available, and the intense beauty of its colours is still appreciated throughout Europe in cave paintings dating back over 17,000 years (Clearwell Caves, no date).

It is also important to note that ochre pigments are non-toxic and require no chemical processing (Clearwell Caves, no date). They are naturally produced for artists everywhere and present none of the problems of fumes or disposal associated with many artificial paints (Clearwell Caves, no date). Combined with traditional or modern eco paints, they contribute towards a wholesome living environment (Clearwell Caves, no date).

These pigments are perfect for environmentally friendly creatives (Clearwell Caves, no date).
