The principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence relate to current movements because there is still talk about whether or not people are equal within this country. The statement “all men are created equal,” is not true today because there are still examples of people being treated unjustly based on skin color, gender, sexual orientation, class, etc. A very prominent example of this is the injustice happening to Latino Americans who are being arrested and deported by ICE agents just because of their skin color.

Americans judge if courts are truly impartial and a recent example is donald trumps criminal trials which sparked debates on whether courts remained impartial.

Modern parallel: People today often complain about government shutdowns or gridlock in Congress that prevent laws from being passed.

How our system addresses it: Unlike a king dissolving legislatures, our Congress cannot be shut down at the whim of the president. Members are elected for fixed terms, and power is separated.

Some people argue that congress and the president have failed to pass important laws, for example, more limited and control on gum use, because public safety is necessary for the U.S society today.  

Currently, the U.S. fails to have steady agreements in terms of Trade around the world. Tariffs increase, or other problems with other countries ban trade from happening between them.
