My Experience During the Typhoon Kristine

The Typhoon Kristine, which recently happened, has affected a lot of families, and areas in our country especially here in the bicol region. We live in Himaao, Pili and we are grateful that we did not get flooded as much as the other areas that were affected. There were no electricity and signal for days which made it hard to reach out to others and ask if other family members were safe and doing just fine. Thankfully, our area recovered the day after the typhoon and all of us were safe.

My experience during the typhoon "Kristine" was fine because my family are safe and thankfully we didn't much feel the typhoon, because the house was built full concrete and we live in a high grounds. But there is just a little leaking of water on the wall.

After the typhoon "Kristine" my mother told me to come with her to visit and clean her classroom , because it was affected by the flood due to the typhoon. After finishing the cleaning in the classroom, My mother and I visit my grandparents to check if they are Safe and fine after the typhoon Kristine, and they are fine, Thank you.

In the middle of the typhoon we stayed indoors sealed the door and windows. We used the radio to hear the news about the typhoon, recycled the old cans and used oil for candles after the typhoon we cleaned our barangay then charged our phones in the barangay hall with the generator then my family donated on the relief package they gave on the people of bula especially my father and his batch mates "batch 1998" they are the one who gave the relief packages. During the rampage of the typhoon Kristine, we experienced a lot of rain. For the first time, our house was almost got flooded due to the rising water. During the typhoon we listened to radio for news updates about the typhoon. We didn't expect that the typhoon Kristine will produce so much rain and I heard many people asking for help in the news broadcaster of asintado sa radio. This makes me feel sad and alarmed for their safety because some of the residents and places in Bicol got flooded. During this hard times I decided to pray for affected individuals and families for their safety. The aftermath of the storm was disturbing, it takes human life, livestocks, houses, etc.. There are many people that was affected by the typhoon and I decided to donate the unused clothes and sent in to donation drive in Universidad de Sta. Isabel. This disaster made me realized how significant to prepare to any disaster because we wouldn't expect its outcome.

It was a stressful situation that I experienced during the typhoon Kristine. During the situation, we are expecting that the flood will not enter our home due to it's just signal no. 1 according to the news, but it's far from what we expected because the typhoon quickly jumps to signal no. 2 in just 3 hours. We are not prepared for the unexpected situation. That time, the flood is only covering our feet; we replace the appliances and other things in the elevated area. After that, we noticed that the flood is rising and it has fully reached our knees.

That time after the typhoon, when the sun is rising. The different clubs and organizations of Universidad de Sta. Isabel Inc. initiates a relief goods and donation drive to help the Vincentians students that are affected by the typhoon, especially to help the people in need that are greatly affected by the typhoon.

It was an exhausting event 😪 , both mentally and physically. I am grateful that we are safe and our home was not affected by the flood, but our rice crops were devastated by the storm. My experience with the storm is physically and mentally exhausting since during the intense rain, my family and I should be attentive of the rising waters and monitor our rice crops. After the storm, when we checked our crops, they were already felled and stuck on the mud. We were saddened because some rice will go to waste, but instead of sulking over something we can't save, my grandmother told us to just focus on pulling through and start recovering. Though the whole event and its aftermath is exhausting, just like our crops, we should grow and rise again.

"Resiliency Amidst Adversity"

Typhoon Kristine severely affected the lives of people and brought destruction to their homes, especially in different parts of the Bicol Region, like Camarines Sur. Honestly, I did not expect that this typhoon would bring this kind of disaster because everything seemed fine before the heavy rains and floods came. I was just at home before that day, enjoying the suspension because it was just a little rain. But, the night before the destruction happened, I attended the cultural night of USI of Pili Inc., and the heavy rains began to flow. However, I still prepared for the civic parade the next day, but I woke up to no electricity and heavy rains. That afternoon, much heavier rains poured, and we got alarmed because our front yard was flooded, and there were a lot of posts that night on Facebook calling for rescuers and crying for help. Thankfully, the flood did not enter our house, and we were all safe.

The next day, we cleaned our front yard and contacted our families living in Minalabac and Partido. The day after that was the feast of St. Raphael the Archangel, and our family went to the church to attend Mass. I was also praying for the safety of everyone and the success of the donation drive that would be led by the Council of Student Affairs because before I went to the church, I sent a message on our group chat, asking if they wanted to have a donation drive, and everyone agreed. The whole afternoon of that day, I, together with other CSA officers, prepared posts for the Facebook page and coordinated with the organizations in school. Thankfully, everything went well, there were alumni who coordinated with us, and we received a lot of help in packing, sorting, and other tasks. That simple idea turned into something big as that project could reach Bula, Caorasan, and other Vincentian families. After the donation drive, I still extended my help by volunteering in repacking and sorting in our parish.

This typhoon is a testament to the resilience of our community. In the face of adversity, we came together to help each other. As youth, we should not be limited by challenges; we should embrace opportunities to serve and make a difference.

During typhoon my family and I was putting all the appliances into our second floor because the river in our location is rising faster so we immedietly put all the things in somewhere safe. It was my first time experiencing flood in our baranggay. I also experience people in our baranggay crying because their home was fully washed out by the flood and also by the strong wind. I saw the sadness through their eyes because all of the things their clothes, food, etc., was completely gone. After the typhoon everyone was feel devastated because of the disaster it brought to us. Luckily some of the residents here offer some food and clothes to those who are greatly affected and gave a relief goods to all. After that everyone feels a relief because they are safe.

The day that the typhoon striked, the 🌊 nearly got up to our 🏠 yet we were fortunate enough as it was elevated. It was a shocking experience for me as I never expected that it would make such an impact in our environment. The people of Bicol were clearly not ready for the effects that the disaster brought and it was shown that our government and rescue teams were also not prepared for those who needs help🔥🔥🔥. The next morning of the disaster, we collected some of our used (yet still good enough) clothes and I joined my dad in giving it away for the evacuees in St. Rose of Lima Church. They have also requested for diapers, milk, and snacks, so we went to the closest store and bought more things that they needed. For the next couple of days, we continued to give away reliefs from the donations of people we know which helped in reaching more people. X.Lopez

Typhoon Kristine is the most unforgettable disaster that happened to me and my family. At that time, we couldn't tell if we were safe because the water level kept rising and the rain wouldn't stop, so we tried to seek help, called the emergency hotlines, seek help by posting on social media but nothing seemed to work because of the reason that the rescuers are also afraid of the raging floodwater that were already surrounding the area/houses. I prayed that this nightmare would stop. All the people who stayed with us, which were the neighbors who were also trapped in that situation, were worried. I couldn't sleep that night because we were already surrounded by floodwater and also worried about our situation.

I thank God that my prayer was granted, the rain ceased and the water level started to drop. I can't explain the relief that I felt at that moment when I realized that we were safe, we survived. When the morning came we charged our phones in the nearby charging station so we could update our loved ones that we were safe, and after that, I helped clean the things Kristine left behind. My family let our neighbors borrow our clothes because they were the dry ones. I'm so grateful that we were safe, whatever the damage is, at least we are always safe, thank you.

The typhoon kristine has been truly a devastating blow for the bicolandia, it tested everyone's resilience, resolve and will. It truly saddens me to know the destruction it left behind with every drop of water it produces and every wind it blows. It makes me realize how privileged and lucky I am that our family is safe from this catastrophe, luckily our family didn't experience the flood, we have enough food at home, even though we didn't have electricity and internet at the time, i am grateful that we are safe and sound from danger. However, as i opened facebook the next days, it truly make me realize how tragic the typhoon is, and how unpredictable and unprepared the bicol is, since this is the very first time we experienced a flood this strong. It breaks my heart knowing that other people have had to experience and endure its damage, not only on properties but also in their lives, many livestock, plants, and animals are affected from it, and the most traumatic is of course the lost of lives of humans. After learning of such news in social media, our family members know that we needed to do something, even if its just little help, a help is still a help. We donated 1 sack of rice and clothes to the Department of Agriculture and my brother helped and volunteer in Bula during the time. Now, I just hoped proper sewage system and flood control, a permanent solution to this impending problem, I wish for everyone to get better, may they're wounds heal from this nightmare, bangon bicolandia! Bangon.

My experiences during the strike tropical cyclone named Kristine. On the 26th of October 2024, severe tropical storm (STS) Kristine entered the Philippines. It was a very rainy and windy day, three branches swings back and forth. In the middle of the night, we lost our electricity, water supply, and signals. As the night becomes deeper, we listen to radio to get updated on typhoon Kristine and also checking our surroundings to assess what's happening outside of our house. As morning came, we assessed the damages that Kristine left to us. We found out that our spillway was not passable for almost 3 days because of the damage that Kristine left. After assessing those damages, I helped in the repacking of relief goods in our barangay, led by our Sk Chairman. After repacking lots of relief goods the next day, we distributed them in our barangay. On the 29th of October, I visited our grandparents house to check if they were okay, and also on the same day, I helped distribute relief goods. It's because of my SK friend asked me if I'm willing to help them distribute those relief goods. Without any hesitation, I help them as a friend and also help the community to get their needs as soon as possible. I would also like to say thank you to those private individuals and politicians who donate to make those relief operations successful.

During the typhoon, I was observing the rain from our window wondering when will it stop. My family was deeply concerned about the flood worrying that it will reach our home. Not to long the power disappeared and started raining so badly. I light up our candle to find my sweater to cover myself from the cold.

My family was just waiting for the typhoon to stop while we use our phone to communicate and stay updated on the news about the typhoon Kristen. During that time I was just cleaning, eating, sleeping and watching a movie to cheer myself from the typhoon. The day passed, I wake up from my bed and still seeing the rain however i notice that the rain had gone a little bit weaker. Luckily we were safe in our house.

My experience during the typhoon “Kristine” that recently happened in the Bicol region was that many Bicolanos were affected by this typhoon "Kristine." In my experience, it was sad but also happy at the same time. I'm sad because many families are affected and stranded due to the rapid rise of water in their area, and especially seeing other families crying because of the loss or death of their children, parents, wives, and also their pets, and see the houses that are damaged due to Typhoon "Kristine." I'm happy because I and my family are safe. To those families that were flooded, damaged houses that are now slowly getting up after our province was hit by typhoon "Kristine,” and I hope that more help and grace will be given to those families that were devastated so that they can get up and start again a new life with their family and have enough work to sustain their needs. Let's help and pray each other so that our place can rise again and also don't forget to pray and ask for guidance from our dear Lord. “BANGON BICOLANOS”.

On Oct 24, 2024 Typhoon Kristine has made landfall and has hit the Bicol region, where multiple homes and buildings were affected with heavy rains, strong winds, and extreme flooding. Thankfully, we were safe from the worst of the storm, however some were not so lucky, during the typhoon although we were left in the dark with no electricity and signal, we were able to be informed of the situations in other places such as Naga City which was flooded. We were worried, not for our safety but for the safety of some of our family members who were out in the typhoon. My father who worked as a bus driver was stranded in the middle of the storm in San Fernando Naga City, most of the passengers were rescued however my father, who was in charge of the bus stayed and lived in it for over 3 days due to the high floods and they were unable to leave, we were also unable to contact him due to brownouts and no wifi connection, which made us extremely worried for his safety during those times.

During the night of the typhoon our grandfather ran out of his medicine, and also needed groceries to last for the recovery period after the storm, therefore during the typhoon we had to drive and buy medicine and food. We drove over to the nearest open grocery store in Pili and as we drove we were caught in a flood in Anayan Bridge, which was almost as high as a persons waist, at the time we were extremely scared that we were going to be stuck, with the danger and possibility that the water would get into the engine and the car would break down but thankfully we were able to push through and get to our destination and able to buy medicine and also supplies.

The period after the storm was a struggle for most of Bicolanos although the rain has stopped, most of the houses were still flooded and many items were damaged, we were extremely lucky that the water hadn't entered our house but some of our electronics were damaged through the moisture brought about by the rain and cold. But as Bicolanos and Filipinos we are always resilient and always ready which is why we help each and everyone of us, may it be through our prayers and donations.

The severe tropical storm named “Typhoon Kristine” that recently struck our country has left an unforgettable and permanent damage to the Filipinos. On the day of the typhoon, me and my family were enjoying the comfort of our home. I was even celebrating because the classes were suspended. As a majorette member, I felt even more excited as our parade was cancelled that day. I was spending time on my mother’s room when the power went out. That is when I realized that the typhoon was already hitting the Bicol region. Strong winds and heavy rains were the only thing I could hear that night which made me think of the people and animals that did not have a safe place for them to use as a shelter.

I woke up to a gloomy morning with leaves and dirt sticking outside our house, broken wires, and trash all over the place. Me and my sister went to check the river near us to see if the water is high enough to cause flood in our area. Fortunately, our area was not flooded, and my family remained unharmed. Because there was no electricity and it was hard to find a signal, I was unable to message my friends to ask for their current state. Eventually, I was informed by my friends that they are safe, which I am thankful for.

A day had already passed, and I was finally able to message my friends. I was informed that some parts in Pili were flooded. My sister and I decided to walk from our house all the way to centro which took about 30 minutes. Everyone was busy cleaning the mess Kristine has left us. We stumbled upon a family picking up pieces of their store which truly broke my heart. I felt helpless in that moment and all I could think of was the situation of others and what people have lost during the typhoon.

Throughout that walk, I realized that us, Filipinos, are built different. Regardless of the hardships we have to overcome, we always choose to fight. We use these challenges as an opportunity to help ourselves grow stronger, not weaker. The resilience of the Filipinos shined through those moments of sorrow, and that is something the typhoon cannot take away from us.
