Including at least 3-4 cited references to the reading, explain ways in which you can refuse, negotiate, and collaborate to enhance your health or reduce your health risks. Then, describe a situation in which you or someone you know personally refused, negotiated or collaborated in order to reduce your/his/her health risks. Was this a challenging thing to do? Why or why not?

Refusing to do something can reduce health risks. If you are peer pressured into doing something that is not good for you, that is called spoken pressure or un-spoken pressure. Spoken pressure is when "someone pressures you with words"(Unit 3, pg 6). Un-spoken pressure is when you feel pressure "just from watching how others act or dress"(Unit 3, pg 7). Refusing pressure can help you be more healthy and be more conscientious of these kinds of pressure in the future.

Negotiation is a way to reduce your health risks. Negotiation is "a method by which people settle differences"(Unit 3, pg 7). By using the steps of Preparation, Discussion, Clarification of Goals, Negotiate Towards a Win-Win Outcome, Agreement, and Implementation of Course of Action you can avoid being in heated discussions that are not good for either side, and keep all respect for the other side as well.

Working with an opposing view point in a negotiation can reduce your health risks. Completely understanding what the opposing argument is can lead to more skills in communication with others. Being able to talk through an argument can improve your way of dealing with other arguments in the future. This important skill helps a person reduce the health risk of ruining relationships with other people because they cannot see the opposing viewpoint.

Over the summer I was asked if I wanted to try vaping with someone and I refused. After I refused I actually felt really good that I had resisted peer pressure like I have always been taught to do. I was so happy that I legitimately patted myself on the back after.
