myHOMEWORK

myHOMEWORK is an application where students can use it as an alternative to traditional student planners. This application keeps track of your classes, homework, tests, and assignments. It supports time, block, and period-based schedules where users could be reminded of their upcoming class. This is very useful for students from all levels who would like to stay organized without the hassle of carrying around an actual planner. Its simple interface and modern design makes it easy for everyone to use. In using this application, a student could simply put in his/her class schedule with the specified date and time for every day of the week. A user could also add a reminder for every class, which could be categorized into homework, test, study, read, paper, presentation, lab, final, midterm, quiz, project, workbook, lesson, and other. The due date could be included, along with how much the user would like to prioritize the reminder.

This application is free and can be downloaded to mobile devices, tablets, or other gadgets from the App Store, the Mac App Store, Google Play, Windows Store, the Chrome Web Store, and it is also available on kindle fire. The user could also choose to upgrade to premium, for only $4.99 per year. This upgrade would include file attachments, enhanced app widgets, external calendar access, and finally there would be no ads.

When you sign up, the application would let you choose to sign up with your Facebook account, Google account, or just make a new one. This app uses HTTPS to ensure that the information is encrypted as it travels over the internet. If a user chooses not to sign up with Facebook or Google, there are a few different reasons why they ask for the email address. First, it is easier to remember, and should you forget your password, they can email the user a link for resetting the password. When possible, they attempt to capture the geographic location when a user signs up for an account. They do this to help filter content appropriate to the user’s location, such as showing schools and teachers nearby. Information about the device a user uses to access to this application and services is captured to uniquely identify the devices to sync and to detect potential abuse of the system. This includes device identifiers, operating system versions, web browser information, IP addresses, device names and types.

As a user of myHOMEWORK, I haven’t had any concerns in terms of privacy. The application gets the necessary information that they need in order for the user to have a better experience from the app. It doesn’t get too much information that would be of concern or would elicit some sort of problems. Furthermore, the responsibility still lies within the user’s decision, whether he/she would like to share such information or not.
