C’est un très gros ballon rempli d’air chaud qui lui permet de monter dans le ciel et de voler loin poussé par le vent. Il a été inventé en 1783 par les frères Mongolfier. Le 19 septembre 1783, ils ont fait une démonstration. Pour la première fois, des êtres vivants ont effectué un voyage aérien. Un mouton, un coq et un canard ont été les premiers aéro nau tes. Le ballon a volé à une altitude de 500 mètres pendant 8 minutes. Le 21 novembre 1783, deux hommes ont volé durant 25 minutes et ont fait un «voyage» de 10 km. Aujourd’hui, les ballons servent aux études spatiales et météorologiques.
