Aperture priority- setting on some cameras that allows the user to choose a specific shutter speed while the camera adjusts the aperture to ensure correct exposure
Shutter priority- shutter speed is selected by the user and the appropriate aperture is then set by the camera
Bitmap- used in the absence of a vector graphic alternative
Exposure- amount of light
Watermarking- used to identify ownership
Optical zoom- This will enable you to get a closer view of the subject before taking your picture
Digital zoom- method of decreasing the apparent angle of view of a digital photographic or video image
Bracketing- taking several shots of the same subject using different camera settings
Light meter- an instrument for measuring the intensity of light
Image stabilization- techniques that reduce blurring
Noise- the grain in the image
Lag time- delay between triggering the shutter and when the photograph is actually recorded
Hot shoe- mounting point on the top of a camera to attach a flash unit and other compatible accessories
Fisheye- ultra wide-angle lens that produces strong visual distortion
Macro- photographing objects that are very close to the lens
Telephoto- specific type of a long-focus lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length
Wide angle-  lens whose focal length is substantially smaller than the focal length of a normal lens for a given film plane
DSLR-  digital single lense reflex
Dynamic range- dynamic range of the subject is a measure of the range of light intensities from the shadows to the highlights
Exposure compensation- adjusting the exposure indicated by a photographic exposure meter

This is because images with different sources of light have a different color or temperature to them. 
  • Auto – this will make a guess on what your current lighting is
  • Tungsten – this is for shooting indoors, it will cool the colors a bit
  • Fluorescent – this will warm up fluorescent light 
  • Daylight/Sunny –  it sets things as ‘normal’ white balance settings.
  • Cloudy – This setting warms things up more than daylight mode
  • Flash – this could make your photos cooler or warmer
  • Shade – This warms things up a little bit

Another thing is hard light and soft light. This can change how the shadows and highlights appear -- for example, hard light can show your pores while soft light can hide them. Hard light comes from a smaller light source, while softer light comes from a larger light source.

Distance from the light source can also affect how you look. Closer light sources become softer. Also, a closer light can also result in making it brighter. Closer light sources illuminates the subject unevenly.
