In my practice, I truly believe that every single patient is unique and deserves a level of care that is individualised and goes beyond just physical needs. In incorporating Watson’s theory of caring, my aim is to create a therapeutic relationship with each patient that encompasses their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

 

In addition to Watson’s theory, the Self-Care Deficit Theory by Dorothea Orem I find to be particularly relevant to my practice. Orem establishes the importance of empowering patients to have a role of responsibility in their own care, aligning with my belief that the healing process is best assisted by patients actively participating in their own care.

 

Lastly, the adaptation model by Sister Callista Roy also influences the approach of my care. The model emphasizes the importance of assessing patients’ ability to adapt to their own environments and provide support to assist them in reaching an optimal level of functioning.

 

In summary, by incorporating the theories of Watson, Orem, and Roy into my practice, I strive to provide individualized, holistic care that empowers patients to take control of their own health and well-being.
