The success of the Roman Empire was greatly assisted by their strong army and advanced training facilities. They also used the best armour and weapons when going into battle and fighting for land. Due to their organisation, the Romans were able to rule for approximately 500 years from 27B.C. to 476A.D. . Some of the main cities and regions that they ruled over this time period include Italy, Greece, Egypt and Spain. Although they were reasonably accepting of other cultures and religions, the Romans were caught up in the persecution of Christ. However, in the Mediterranean world, the Jews were the major threat to Christians and in the aftermath of Jesus’ death the number of followers were rapidly decreasing to the point where the religion was in danger of dying out. More conflict arose due to the monotheistic beliefs of the Christian faith. This is because the majority of the religions then were polytheistic meaning they believed in the existence of more than one God. In this time, Greek was majorly used and was the main source of communication. The transportation of goods would occur using carts, horses, donkeys, ships and occasionally people would have to travel by foot.

To continue to spread this wondrous religion, Paul set off on 3 major journeys. His first journey, around 46 A.D., was the shortest of them all but still consisted of 1400 miles. Paul was sent with Barnabas this journey by the Church of Anitochto proclaim the gospel delivered to them by the Holy Spirit. The 2 travellers stopped in many cities like Cyprus, Lystra, Iconium, and many more to preach the beliefs in the Christian faith. They stopped in Significant Jewish worship areas such as synagogues and talked to them. These journeys were very significant to the growth of the faith as the message would not have gone as far if Paul had only stayed within a certain area.

When Saul was confronted with the face of Jesus and blinded by his miracle, he was then referend to as Paul. This is known as his conversion. Paul had a mission: to spread the message of Christianity to a wider variety of people, religions, and races. Before his conversion, Paul was a zealous persecutor like many other Jewish people and was responsible for the death of many Christians. This is why this event was so miraculous. Because of his brave actions, Paul was able to save the faith from dying out and he is now known as a significant individual to the Christian religion.

After his conversion, Paul wrote many letters to those in need of help and guidance. In his travels, Paul had established a Church in Galatia and when he left, many questions arose. Because of this, Paul wrote to the Church making clear his instructions about the laws of the Christian faith and rules around Jews and Gentiles. In 1:15-16 Paul states the purpose of his mission. This letter had a significant impact on the future of the religion as it prevented some of the false rules and laws that would have been created and impacted the religion in a negative way.

POST 6 ~ Interpretation and Significance of Paul's Letters and Messages for Us Today

Located in the scripture passage; 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 is a very important message that was written by St Paul to the Corinthians that can also be implemented into our everyday lives. St Paul stressed the issue that completing selfless tasks without love means nothing. One of the main reasons for the composition of this letter was to provide guidance and encouragement for the Church experiencing difficulties and to let them know that love should be the primary focus in everything you do and say. This moral can be modified into an example for the current time: when helping the homeless, if you are doing this for the credit or just because you were told to, there is no real sense of accomplishment and it is not worthwhile. This message can greatly improve the world we are living in now if people would love all, no matter their skin colour, religion, beliefs or values.

At a time of conflict between the Jews and the Gentiles, St Paul addressed a letter to the Galatians making clear his feelings about becoming a Jewish believer before moving on to Christianity. Paul was enraged at this and it is evident in his letter where he further went on to say that the Jewish law was not important when becoming a Christian: “For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything but a new creation is everything! (Galatians 6:15)”. Paul said that the gospels he was telling them he had received from God and that it makes him upset that they are changing His orders because he had made no such suggestion when forming the Church in Galatia. The law is summed up in the single commandment “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
