His killer , Lee Harvey Oswald , was a former marine. He had used a rifle from a nearby building and assassinated him. Lee was arrested , but on his way to the courthouse he himself was shot by a man named Jack Ruby. 30 minutes after the shooting , the 35th president was pronounced dead at a hospital.
