My chosen culture is Fishing culture. I have asked my friends in table, what they think about the word fishing. This made me choose Fishing culture as my topic because there were some misconceptions and misunderstandings about fishing which are 'fishing is only an entertainment that free people enjoy', 'Fishing is boring, have to be waiting fish for long time'. I noticed that people only knew about the negative side of fishing. But I have a different thought about Fishing can be enjoyable for every people and it's not always boring. Although, I think that it is a big culture that is used for main jobs or even for entertainments.

This Irish chair is using wooden parts joined together. It looks more stable because the chair's size is small. I will also make a chair that looks stable, but in different style. and the leg piece is the leg part wood has holes for joining wood parts to stick inside with PVA glue so it doesn't fall apart, so it's a advantage. I will also use PVA glue to stick additional parts, but not the main parts which have to be most strong. Also if I could, I will try the joining skill. This skill might be challenging because it would be hard to make a right sized hole through a thick wooden piece.

Joining:
This chair has been using a nail to connect round piece and the thicker piece. Also, the nail is nailed in after putting the round piece inside the hole to make it more stable and strong. This skill will be hard to check because the nail might have went into wrong spot and not holding the two pieces well. But good thing about this skill is that there are more stable because of two skills are used together. So I will use nails with hammer for main parts like connecting legs and body, so it doesn't fall apart and to think about safety.

Painting:
It's painted with white paint all over the chair. Observing that the nail has paint too, the painting should have been the last step for decorating the chair. I will also paint and decorate at the last stage to finish the job.

A2- Through my three types of research, I decided that nailing and PVA glueing would be the best skill to attach wood together. I have looked at two designed chairs and asked Design teacher, Mr. Mcmahon what skill that he used for the Irish chair. (It was PVA glue) Also in YouTube research, I saw more skills like screwing and putting a piece into another.
Some misconceptions that were from students were that fishing is quiet and only middle-aged men with not much work go for.
I have interviewed one SSIS staff who fishes, Mr.Kelly. He said that waiting for fish is not boring, and it's interesting to look at fish coming and luring to the fish. Although it takes much time, it feels good noticing his efforts.
A3- I found out in the analysis of few existing products was that I could have not only use screws, because before, I have not thought about other joints than screw but by looking at the example products, I want to use wood joints. But this might be challenging for me because screwing just needs to screw in, but wood joint will be needing more time because it will take more time measuring the size and angles. But I will know that my product is a success or not at the end, when I am testing the final product.
Overall, I will be creating a chair that could be tested by various people which means that my chair is not going to be a chair with fish decoration, it is going to be a actual chair that people can sit on and test for fishing which is my culture.

This chair have used wood joint to make it more steady. Also, the legs are crossing over each other so it doesn't collapse easily. But this design will take me longer time measuring the correct angle for crossing. But I think this wood joint could be used because rather than just gluing on flat surface, sticking with a hole in it will make my chair stronger.

To show how I think about fishing, i will adjust the chair design to express.

Color - I will use paints that represent happiness and enjoyment. That will make the whole chair bright and easy to show the positive feelings.

Design - The chair design will be connecting to the misconception of fishing culture. It will be not just chair with decoration, I will be making a chair that could really be used while fishing so people can actually check on my chair if my chair makes difference to what they have thought.

- Whole chair is made out of thick wood, so it is stable (not like paper) to hold a person, and it doesn't move (by any wind or animals) easily while fishing. But there isn't a back of the chair so it will not be as comfortable as normal chairs

- On behind, (right left or back doesn't matter) there is a long groove (?) to place the rod while not fishing.

- The joints are PVA glue, nail which will make the joining parts more steady so it doesn't fall apart.

A2 research - According to the interview with Mr.Mcmahon, and youTube research, I chose most realistic joint which is PVA glue and nailing, which only need only easy techniques like nailing with hammer in straight line, and pasting glue onto wood side.

Leaning the chair on the ruler and made the angle to fall off, it was 40˚ so it stays quite fine even it swings back. Also when fishing, there are high slopes so it will stay until the angle of 40˚.

Because I was late to sketch final design than others, I got help from Mr.Mcmahon for cutting 4 legs. He have used the machine looking like paper cutter.

I have used gluing skill to stick all the pieces together with brush. Then the woods should be pushed with clamp to make it stick more strongly.

I have used 4 different kinds of sand paper from black-red-and two blue papers to make it smoother. Also to rub out pencil stain on the wood, I used black sand paper to take out it. To make it more effective the sanding should be done in the wood's texture.

- I have changed the leg's thickness
Because If I needed thicker long wood, I should have stuck more wood in extra. so from 7.5cm x 7.5cm I have changed to 4cm x 4cm. This made me use less time.

- Changed the style of rod rest.
The original rod rest was one big piece that had groove between. But there wasn't much time left and also the skill that needed required a lot of time so I had to change it into two thin rectangular pieces glued on the sitting board.

Machine sander

This machine made the rough surface quickly be smoother. But one thing that I needed to beware was that if I pushed the wood hard then the wood gets sanded too much and could almost lost my work.

I will be using 4 different types of test to see weather my chair can be used while fishing.
My target audiences are people who go for fishing and starts to get interest.
I will be asking classmates to sit down and pose like real fishing and see if it's good or not to test the real life use. Also get a long ruler and rest it on the rod rest area instead of real fishing rod.

Using the results from D1 and D2 what could you do to improve?

How would you change the design (B4) or the plan (C1) to fulfill more or all the specification points.

Because my chair couldn't be finished with 2.3, so I should have added in C1 plan in more busy way because I had to come in at lunchtime to finish painting. But if I change the plan like all the woods in 2 days, sanding in 2 days. In that way I can be taking time finalizing my chair without running out of time.

I will change my final design B4 to use more thin wood because I couldn't be using thicker wood because it got too heavy and it needed more time so I had to change the thickness of the final product into thinner wood. If I was to use thick wood, I would have not been able to finish all the chair in time.

To make more steady chair from D1 Impact test, I should make the chair more heavier because I have only used light wood because of B1 specification that it should have light weight under 1kG. But my chair does not go near 1KG so to make my chair supported at the impact test because my chair moved 28cm forward after the mallet hitting it. So without passing the 1KG limitation, I think I should increase the weight of my whole chair.

From weight test at D1, I found out that my chair's legs are not in exact length because every time I added 10KG, the legs shacked a little bit which will make my chair being stable with only 2 or 3 legs because one is shorter. I should have measured all the parts correctly and cut it correctly with saw and cutters when I was getting ready for the equipments.

2.1 It did not break until 70KG weight was weighed on.

-I had to prepare the sticker but when I finished the chair, I did not have anymore time. So i should have prepared it at ahead of time. This would have affected IMPACT TEST at D1 because it slipped over 28cm.

What I am trying to talk about, A1 is that there are misconceptions about fishing culture. There were some thoughts: "fishing is boring", "fishing is only people who has nothing to do go for". After testing my chair, my target audience have thought that "fishing could be a fun thing to do" and also said to me that "your chair gives a brighter thoughts about fishing than before". So I think I have achieved the A1's goal.

My target audience who were anybody, thought that my product was giving a positive impression about fishing. It was because my chair was comfortable even sitting on it for more than 10 minutes, and also the painting on the chair made them think positive because I have used bright colors.

My goal from A4 was to make my audience check how is my chair and change the concept how they thought. From the interview, I think that I have succeed this goal because everyone told me that the impact they got from my chair was very positive. Also my another goal was about building my chair, which has using the wood joint. I actually used dado joint, and did not use any screws. So this part also satisfies myself.
