In this assessment we were to learn and teach basic sign language with the children in our centre. I had chosen to teach name of animals in sign language as it was the current interest in the centre. We were also to provide teaching techniques and strategies on how to teach sign language to the children. PI3 was about learning to plan an experience from observations of children's current interests and transitions. In diary entry 1 I was to use a range of observation methods to document children’s current interest in a sequence to inform and plan an experience to further extend on children’s interest. I had been a part of my centre’s planning for the children’s current interest and had made contributions to the centre’s wall planning. With these observations I was able to successfully observe, document and assess children’s interest to plan for and experience that further extends their knowledge of their current interest. I have chosen this assessment as evidence because I have demonstrated my ability to plan for what the children are interested in and what they want to know. In this assessment I drew upon knowledge from relevant curriculum documents such as NZ curriculum and Te Whariki to inform how I can support children learning social science in my practice. I chose this assessment because it shows that i have relevant knowledge of curriculum documents in New Zealand to support children’s learning.
