I got a job working construction for the Johnstown company
But lately there ain’t been much work on account of the economy

All the things that seemed in reach before now seemed to vanish which makes it seem liike the American Dream is now out of reach for the person. A lot of people feel the American dream is hard to achieve and this song displays the downside and doesn't make everything seem easy.

The person's point of view from the song seems to be upset that he no long is having a marriage because having the perfect family is something that is part of the american dream.
